Hi,

With reference to the SE1R172 22.05.2007 update I can’t seen to retrieve it as well as any subsequent update issued following 22.05.2007.

At the moment I’m running the following:

Win XP Professional
Nod 32 Anti-Virus software
Ad-Aware SE Professional
RegisteryFix v6.2

Whilst attempting to download the aforementioned update the process will proceed until 51% then the ‘Error retrieving update’ message appears. On the second as well as any subsequent attempts the update will proceed until 81% and no further with the aforementioned error message appearing yet again.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks,
John Brown

I also have the same problem, but only get to 38%, and haven't been able to upgrade for 41 days now.

Hi,

Thanks for your replies to my posting. I managed to work it out however, this does not mean to say that the instructions which follow will work in every scenario.

Following numerous failed attempts at updating I tried closing the system down and re booting into safe mode. This is done by pressing F8 on the first screen detailing your system just prior to loading the operating system.

Once on the safe mode screen select ‘Safe Mode’ followed by return. Log in as the administrator and carry out a ‘system restore’. This is located by clicking on start followed by help and support, then ‘under pick a task’ click on ‘system restore. The simplest method is to select ‘Restore my computer to an earlier time’ and click on next. If you can remember when the problem started to occur choose a date on the calendar just prior to this. If not you can choose another date either within this month or even last month.

When the system re boots press F8 and return to safe mode logging in as the administrator. Run Ad-Aware SE within save mode. It will tell you it is out of date and want to update. Ignore this as within safe mode you will not have internet access. Just run an Ad-Aware scan. Once completed re boot as normal, update your Ad-Aware software and perform another scan.

This should rectify the ‘Error retrieving update’ problem. Please note that Win Xp pro will not allow you to perform a system restore unless you are logged in as the administrator.

Thanks again for your assistance.

John Brown.

Ps. I do apologise if the above instructions seem somewhat patronising however, this was merely to assist those who had never carried out a system restore before.

Pardon my ignorance, but will performing a system restore delete aps/docs etc that were installed after the date you choose to restore your system to?

Cheers, Macca.
