I'm having a problem with persistent adware/spyware and viruses on a Dell Windows XP Professional laptop. I have ran AdAware SE 6 and it finds problems, fixes them, and then after a reboot, the same problems are back.

In addition:
Norton AntiVirus won't install
The computer will not hook up to the internet
Changes made to the registry are not saved after reboot
Spybot Search and Destroy finds problems, fixes them, and after a reboot they are back too.

Tried scanning with Root Kit Revealer from system internals to see if there could be a rootkit virus -- the computer generates a Stop error and automatically reboots, will not let the scan proceed.

Nothing I have tried will fix these problems after a reboot, the changes made are ignored. Any assistance you can offer will be appreciated.
