Full Version: Getting A 3rd License For Se Plus

I have a registered license for Ad-Aware E Plus, which was permitted to be installed on two separate PCs. I have had it running scheduled in the background, doing a great job, on 2 PCs ever since. Now I would like to add it to my notebook, which currently has only the free version. I want to be able to schedule background operation on that too.

Is it possible to buy a 3rd seat license at any discounted rate? Or would I have to buy another complete license ( presumably for 2 more computers )?

Please let me know.

Thanks!

Hi Zoandar,

You would have to log into the Lavasoft Support Center for licensed users (using the email address & password created during the purchase process) and contact Sales Support. They are best placed to advise on any potential discount - (there was a 15% discount on all Lavasoft products at the beginning of this year, but that offer has long since expired).

Whether it would be a single or double user license, I would not know - sorry.

Whilst logged into the Support Center, double-check that your current licenses are up-to-date ("User Information > License Info" on the left-hand menu) - they will need to be current to enable you to download Ad-Aware 2007 when it is formally released from Beta Testing. Please keep an eye on the Ad-Aware 2007 section of the forum.

Regards,

Spike

Thanks, Spike. I will check into that.

Spike,

I guess before I proceed, I need to clarify something. When I purchased Ad-Aware SE Plus on 9/10/2006, they were stating on the site that it could be installed on TWO home-use computers. That was one of the deciding factors that led me to buy it.

I can't find that statement anywhere on the site now, and the currently published license specifically says on ONE computer.

So, are they still offering the TWO computer on one license arrangement?

Thanks,

Hi Zoandar,

To the best of my knowledge (having guided quite a few friends/relatives through the purchase/installation process over the past few years) licenses have always been for a single computer. For one friend (approx 2 years ago), I specifically asked Sales Support whether a license could be used for two computers and was informed that two licenses would have to be purchased.

I was therefore a little surprised by your initial post but presumed that you had reached a special license agreement with Sales - I suppose that it is too late to ask if you printed the site info stated above (along with the rest of your purchase details)? That would enable you to request that the Support Center amend your license details. (Note: The Lavasoft website was completely redesigned last October).

Being only a forum volunteer, I have no official connection with Lavasoft and am unable to speak to Lavasoft's sales policies.

I would suggest that you log into the Support Center and seek clarification directly from Sales Support.

Hi Spike,

I had visited the Support site and logged in. That is how I discovered they are now specifying one user per license. But I did not want to start "shaking the tree", as it were, until I could provide proof of my claim.

The unfortunate circumstance is that all I have in writing is an annotated copy of my Download document, in which I made a note that, in the Ad-Aware SE Plus FAQ, it was stated that for home use, a single license could be installed on two different PCs. On my notebook, where I keep several log files for my computers, I started a log for the SE Plus retail installation when I bought it, and it is immediately mentioned there about the FAQ's reference to allowing 2 home-use PCs per license. As I said earlier, this was the factor that swayed me from manually running the free version on both PCS. For two computers, the $26 purchase was a really good deal. I got that, plus an extra year of support, for only $38.

I have no control over what is in the FAQ files on the support website. Apparently it reads differently now than it did on 9/10/2006. Perhaps it was a short-term marketing move that did not last for long. I can't say. I never went back looking for it later, especially since I bought an extra year of maintenance.

I have to assume that if I question the support people now, they will simply say that it was never like that, and I will have absolutely no leg to stand on. None of my documentation actually shows the statement they had in the FAQ that day.

So. I guess I will assume that, at renewal time, I would have to buy a license for each PC.

Should I happen to turn up any print to verify my claim, I'll let you know. This has been a learning experience. It won't happen this way again.

Thanks.

Zoandar

There doesn't appear to be any FAQs on the lavasoft website anymore, but as of April 22, 2006, in an archived copy of the FAQs, it does say that 2 copies can be used:

Thanks, Ai_tak.

Zoander, in the archived FAQ from last April (above), it says:

Q: On how many computers can I install my Ad-Aware on?
A: You are allowed to install your license of Ad-Aware on two computers per purchased copy as long as it is for personal home use.
For profit business entities, governmental, Non-Profit, or educational institutions, must purchase a valid end-user license for each computer in order to use the software.

The current Lavasosft FAQs > Sales now states:

Q: How many computers can I install my Ad-Aware SE on?
A: For personal home use, you are allowed to install your licensed Ad-Aware SE on one computer per purchased copy.
For profit business entities, and academic/ non-profit institutions, you must purchase a valid end-user license for each computer/ ’client’ in order to use the software.

So, are you suggesting they changed the regulation? Or are you just reiterating what you sent me in the private message? I am back to wondering what is going on here.

Thanks.

Hi Zoander,

Well, obviously Lavasoft has changed the FAQs in the main website - exactly when or why, none of us here can explain. It could have been during the website redesign late last year.

As I stated above, being forum volunteers we have no direct connection to Lavasoft or it's policies.

Ai_tak has given you a link to the information that you need in order to take the matter further with the Support Center - it is now between you and them.

So it seems. It will be interesting to see what they say when I ask.

Thanks again.
