I recently tried to uninstall Ad-Aware SE Personal by going to the add/remove programs list. After selecting Ad-Aware I was told that it was unable to uninstall due to not being able to find INSTALL.log. Going to the LavaSoft Support forum, I found someone with a similar problem, followed the steps they used to resolve it, and I still cannot get all of the Ad-Aware files off of my computer. Is there something else I can do?

the problem is with the new ad-aware "installer" that was uploaded to "download.com" feb 12th, 2007.. i believe that the new installer was designed to be "vista-compatible", or, to work with vista's new "windows installer 4" (windows xpsp2 uses "windows installer 3.1") and therein lies the problem..
i am having the same problems with other new "installers", with the new "superantispyware installer" and the new "tuneup utilities 2007 installer", in addition to the new "ad-aware installer"..

redwolfe_98,
This thread is about
uninstalling and is covered in the
FAQ section (see above) - going off-topic can cause confusion for the original poster

.
You have already posted your views about a "new installer" for various software in a number of other threads.

spike, i know the thread is about "uninstalling ad-aware", but i was just commenting on why the uninstall-process does not work right, because there is a problem with the new "ad-aware"-installer that was uploaded to "download.com" on feb 12th, 2007, and that that is why the uninstall-process is not working properly.. at least, that is what i believe..
when i tried to install ad-aware, using the new installer, it did not install properly and it would not properly uninstall.. i believe that the two are related.. after i installed "ad-aware", using the new installer, when i would click the shortcut for the program, in "start/all programs", instead of the program opening, what ran was something like a "repair install", and, when i tried to uninstall the program, instead of the program uninstalling, again, what ran was something like a "repair install"..
i keep harping about this because i am trying to bring this issue to lavasoft's attention..
finally, i downloaded and installed "ad-aware" using the old "ad-aware"-installer, which i downloaded from "file hippo", and it installed without any problems.. the old ad-aware installer is 2.72 mb while the new one is 4.12 mb.. the old "ad-aware"-installer is also available at "majorgeeks", at least it was, the last time that i looked..

Hi redwolfe_98,
There is a known, long-standing (but not very common) issue with uninstalling Ad-Aware Se 1.06 which results in the
exact message
"can't Find Install.log" - that was the problem reported by this Topic Starter,
philpumpHence my post to the link to the
Forum FAQ:
I Am Unable To Uninstall My Ad-aware Program. I Get The Message "can't Find Install.log".
It long predates any recent changes to the AAW SE installer.
Seperately, there is a well-known issue for Ad-Aware SE users trying to install certain older releases of McAfee 2007, hence my second link above.
Since there have been no further postings from the Topic Starter in 8 days, I will pressume that the links provided above were sufficient to sort out the problem, and will close this thread.
@philpump, should you require any further assistance with uninstallation, please start a new Topic, including details of any/all steps tried so far - we can then work from a known position to assist you.
Regards,
Spike
