Man, I have the same "jump issues" PLUS I can't even complete a scan with SE PRo: it freezes at the exact same point when doing a deep scan of a certain file. A word file. I can't even delete the file as when I try it tells me IE has to shut down and then the error report window comes up.

SE is now useless! I even paid to download registry booster!

What to do now?

Hey,Capedad

First Hijackthis needs to be in it's own folder
Create a folder on the C: drive called C:\HJT.
You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C:
then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT. then move Hijackthis.exe to that folder

---------------

Please disable Ad-Watch, as it may hinder the removal of some HijackThis entries. You can re-enable it after your computer is clean.

To disable Ad-Watch:

1. Right click on the Ad-Watch icon in the system tray and select "Restore Ad-Watch".
2. At the bottom of the screen there will be two checkable items called "Active" and "Automatic".
Active: Switches Monitoring On or Off without closing
Automatic: Switches Automatic Blocking On or Off
3. Uncheck (red X) both items.

Turn it back on after we are all clean

---------------

Download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. If your firewall gives an alert, (because this tool will download an additional file from the internet), please don't let your firewall block it, but allow it instead.
Then you will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads please post the text that will open (report.txt) together with the results from look.txt, present on your desktop and a new Hijackthis log.

Note: ONLY if you have connection problems afterwards - go to Start -> Control Panel, and choose Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually Local Area Connection or Dial-up Connection if you are using Dial-up, and left click on properties. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio button that says Obtain DNS servers automatically. Click OK twice, and restart your computer.

---------------

Next Go start run type cmd and hit OK
type
ipconfig /flushdns
then hit enter, type exit hit enter
(that space between g and / is needed)

-------------

Run HijackThis
Scan and when it finishes, put a check mark only next to these following items : (if present)

Close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open
Click Fix Checked
Close HijackThis

-----------------

Then do a reboot run this tool for me and show me new HijackThis logfile.

Download to your desktop http://www.malekal.com/download/clean.zip, and right click to allow it to create it's own "clean" folder. In that folder click on clean.cmd. When the command window (black screen) opens select option 1 (and Enter). Allow the scan to complete, press any key and post the contents of the text popup back here please.

Nada. Downloaded to desktop, opened the "clean" folder, a lot of Frebch showed up, no number option, hit enter and it disappeared.

Let me see if I can even run SE Pro.

bummer.....but thanks for your time. Much appreciated.
Capedad
Man, I am so happy: whatever we did worked!!!!! I can now run a full Deep scan to completion (119 critical objects and it didn't freeze up half-way through) and I tried some google searches and I was not re-directed or "jumped" to another search site.

Rather afraid to turn on AdWatch again.........may not as it hangs sometimes.

Should I now remove: registry booster and fixwareout? How about all those hijack logs I saved to the desktop? Can I remove hijackthis from my C:\ folder?

One last thing: is it me or do these forums take a long time to load completely?

Thanks for your help, I am ecstatic!!!!! smile.gif rolleyes.gif wink.gif

Again, my thanks...................

Let me know if you need anything else..........

Hey,Capedad

Glad I was able to help you on this. and yes you may remove/uninstall or delete
any items I had you download for the fix.yes the site has been having some problmes
but i'm sure it's being worked on.

Please run my last steps here come back tell me how it goes.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

Next, let's clean your restore points and set a new one

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs from changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)

1. Turn off System Restore.
* On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
* Click Properties.
* Click the System Restore tab.
* CHECK Turn off System Restore.
* Click Apply, and then click OK.
2. Restart your computer.
3. Turn ON System Restore.
* On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
* Click Properties.
* Click the System Restore tab.
* UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
* Click Apply, and then click OK.

System Restore will now be active again.

Then create a new restore point once you have System Restore back on.
To create a new System Restore Point, click Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore.
When the System Restore Utility opens, click "Create a Restore Point" then click Next.
Enter a name for this Restore Point, and click Create.

---------------------

Clean out your Temporary Internet files. Proceed like this:

Next to Cookies, click Delete cookies, and then click OK.
Next to History, click Delete history, and then click OK.
Click the Close button.
Click OK.
For Internet Explorer 4.x - 6.x
Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Internet Options.
On the General tab, click Delete Files under Temporary Internet Files.
In the Delete Files dialog box, tick the Delete all offline content check box, and then click OK.
On the General tab, click Delete Cookies under Temporary Internet Files, and then click OK.
Click on the Programs tab then click the Reset Web Settings button. Click Apply then OK.
Click OK.
For Netscape 4.x and Up
Click Edit from the Netscape menubar.
Click Preferences... from the Edit menu.
Expand the Advanced menu by clicking the triangle sign.
Click Cache.
Click both the Clear Memory Cache and the Clear Disk Cache buttons.
For Mozilla 1.x and Up
Click Edit from the Mozilla menubar.
Click Preferences... from the Edit menu.
Expand the Advanced menu by clicking the plus sign.
Click Cache.
Click the Clear Cache button.
For Opera
Click File from the Opera menubar.
Click Preferences... from the File menu.
Click the History and Cache menu.
Click the two Clear buttons next to Typed in addresses and Visited addresses (history) and click the Empty now button to clear the Disk cache.
Click Ok to close the Preferences menu.

-------------------

Empty the Recycle Bin by right-clicking the Recycle Bin icon on your Desktop, and then clicking Empty Recycle Bin.

---------------------

Open Firefox and go to Tools -> Options.
Click Privacy in the menu on the left side of the Options window.
Click the Clear button located to the right of each option (History, Cookies, Cache).
Click OK to close the Options window.
Alternatively, you can clear all information stored while browsing by clicking Clear All.
A confirmation dialog box will be shown before clearing the information.

---------------------

Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
1. From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
2. Click once on the Security tab
3. Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
4. Click once on the Custom Level button.
a. Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
b. Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable

5. Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

And please have a look at the great info by Mr,TK
So how did I get infected in the first place

Thanks HJThis:

Did all you suggested: man, didn't realize I had so many "ID" cookies installed - hope I remember them. Took forever to delete them rolleyes.gif

The only option I had to change in IE was "Navigate sub-frames across different domains" to "Prompt." Everything else was already defaulted there. smile.gif

I can't thank you enough. One more question:

I go back and forth between here (FL-USA) and the Rockies (CO-USA). I have a Seagate external backup at each location.

I noticed this problem developed out there last week and I could not only not run SE Pro but I couldn't run Backup either? Is that Seagate toast? Can I simply try another backup with it? What to do?

What about the one here. It was not infected - I think - but are there any special precautions I should take before I back up my entire lappie?

Thanks, HJT: I'm your biggest fan right now.

Hope I don't need your help again.

Not gonna back up until I hear from you again.......

On another note: Tony's IE suggestions differ from yours. He has you hit the default level before the custom level and this changes some of your suggestions. I went with yours. D

Hey,Capedad

Your welcome anytime, now what I would do is scan everything with you Anti-Virus scanner, Spyware scanner
and so on then backup everything. this way before you move all you know it's clean.

I hope this is what your asking me, sorry need for sleep here.
