Anyone else experiencing problems running auto update today? I have followed all advice on the subject to no avail.

So am I at 1:40am, 3/24/07. I have downloaded and uninstalled and downloaded again. I also followed all the instructions and even manually updated my files. But it still registers "Error retrieving update." Please let us know.

I'm unable to update Ad-Aware SE. Stops at 5% and says "error retrieving update". I've tried everything your site has suggested including uninstalling/re-installing, still receive the same error. It updated fine approx. 2 days ago. Tried to maunually install them as well but that was a no go as well. After manual install it still shows the old 'Defs' SER1R162 21.03.2007

WinXP Media Center 2005 Serv. pack 2
Pentium D 930 Dual core 3.0GHz
300Gb SATA HDD

I just load the Ad-Aware SE and when it told me to look for update I did.

I got " Error retrieving update" when it started to load the updates?

Went to 5% and stopped

What should I do.

Thanks in advance

Same problem here. When I check for updates I get the message "error retrieving updates." Latest file I have is 21-3-2006.

Hello!

I had the same problem. Then I checked the update log file, and i noted an error with opendns.
I have change my DNS settings from opendns to my provider dns, and now it works fine!!!

ohmy.gif Same problem on a new vista computer and also a xp system in the den. I performed as out lined by Steve and I still get error;during updates.I deleted and did a fresh install still the same. Its apparent it's a lavasoft problem on some servers. ???

Me too.

I followed all the instructions in the Adaware FAQ for SE Personal and in the sticky message "Ad-Aware Definition Update Problems" at
http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=1336

All settings in Adaware and my firewall seem to be OK, so I finally followed the instructions for doing a manual update. It worked... sort of.

I was able to get Adaware SE to start with the new definition file (currently SE1R162 21.03.2007), and it runs and scans OK, but if I check for updates (even though I am now up-to-date), I get the same error message as I did before I manually updated: "Error retreiving update" at 5%. This leads me to believe that when another definition update is released in a week or so, I probably won't be able to automatically install it, either.

(Using Win2K/SP4, Adaware SE, Spybot S&D, Spyware Blaster, CA Antivirus)

Any comments from the experts?

Thanks.

I've had unable to update error, stopping at 5% for the last 3 days. I modified firewall, but I won't bother to uninstall and reinstall at this point. Sounds like that won't solve the problem.

Any suggestions, dear moderators?

Ever since Friday (3/24), I cannot AutoUpdate. I have followed all advice on this forum including removing old versions of java and reinstalling current version. I have uninstalled and reinstalled a dozen times with both the 4.2 MB and the 2.8 MB installers. I have scoured my Hard Drive and registry for remnants of Lavasoft and AdAware after the unistalls to try to resolve this with with no success. I have a clean system with no other problems. My firewall (ZA) is properly configured to allow the updates. When I DL the updates manually they work fine. I have attached my Hijackthis log (change ext from bmp to log - I had to change extension to Upload the file) and system info (nso) file. Any help that could be provided would be much appreciated as I have used this product for years and never had a problem until now.

Could the people who are still having trouble post the dns servers they are using?
run:
ipconfig /all
to see your dns servers.

All I was going to do is check the servers, nothing was fixed by me. But I think I may have found the problem, I will let the staff know.

Well it work once. It hung at 5% for longer than usual and returned "No updates Available", but when I retried it went back "Error retrieving update" again.

I think I have found the problem, I left a message for the staff, it should be corrected once one of them sees it.

I re-installed Ad-Aware which did not solve the update problem. My definition file is now SE1R148 29.1.2007. I originally installed Ad-Aware a year ago without any update problems until a few days ago. It appears to be a system problem. Will a solution be posted in this forum?

bonjour

today i try to update definition file... and it works: SE1R163 26.03.2007 downloaded and installed correctly!!!

yesterday i have changed my dns settings (from 208.67.222.222 to 151.99.125.1) because i noted a dns error in the update log file... and i solved the problem "error retreiving update".....

today after download and install the SE1R163 definitions i try to set dns to the previous 208.67.222.222 (only for curiosity)... result: again the "error retreiving update" problem!!!

i dont understand what ever happened!!!

Come on Lavasoft! This problem is lasting far too long. When are you going to correct it.

Tried all suggestions above, no luck. When I run ipconfig/all, the black screen with numbers flashes for a second, then disappears.

This is my third time trying to post this note: as far as I can tell, it is timing out and crashing before posting.

Ad-Aware had a new update today (Se1r163 26.03.2007)

I just now connected and downloaded the new update - worked fine.

Could you please try again and let us know if the problem is resolved?

mad.gif I have been having the same problem with the system since I last downloaded the 3/21 updates.

NOW, I AM REALLY ANGRY WITH THESE LAVASOFT PEOPLE...THEY KNOW THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THEIR SYSTEM
BUT THEY REFUSE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM, NOR DO THEY EVEN POST A LEGITIMATE REPLY TO ALL OUR POSTS !!!!

Same problem also started on 3/24. Tried all the suggested fixes from the FAQ. Was not able to deselect "Suppress Web Update confirmation dialogs". I was able to do a manual update, but hope this will not become a regular requirement.

That happened to me too. I had to open up a DOS window (START :: PROGRAMS :: ACCESSORIES :: COMMAND PROMPT), then typed 'ipconfig/all' and the screen didn't disappear.

LS CalamityJane
Staff at Lavasoft has been notifed of the problem some of you are experiencing with webupdate. As the time is now in the wee hours of the morning there in Sweden, I doubt they will see it until tomorrow.

I have also merged the 5 duplicate topics here into one to make it easier for the IT staff to review.

As this problem appears to be affecting some but not others, you may also use the manual update procedure below until the immediate problems with automatic updates are fixed:

Manual Update*
In some circumstances, you may not be able to update the definition file by using WebUpdate. Reasons can include the server being too busy to process update requests, or proxy settings are not configured correctly in Ad-Aware. You can download the reference file manually using the following steps.

1. Close Ad-Aware

2. Download the latest definition file in a ZIP file from Lavasoft's website*
http://dlserver.download.lavasoft.com/public/defs.zip
3. Save it to a temporary location

4. When complete, unzip the contents of the file, either through your favorite ZIP utility or through built-in support in Windows, to the installation directory of Ad-Aware, which is usually C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware SE\

5. Open Ad-Aware

You can then confirm the latest definition file is installed by looking at the Initialization Status on the main Status screen.
