Hello!

Since several weeks I have had lots of problems with Sophos Anti-Virus,
usually with Auto-Update which crashed quite often.
Right now Sophos Anti-Virus shows this version-details: 6.5.3,
threat recognition-files: 4.15, last update: 2007-02-28, 12:00

As I could not manage to solve these problems I uninstalled Sophos
Anti-Virus. Several attempts to reinstall it (from a network-device and
from the local hard disk) failed, usually just stopped without my
interference.

I stopped Windows Defender, but I still couldn't install Sophos Anti-Virus.

Searching for information on the Sophos website, I came upon a
page with an error very much alike one of those I saw when trying
to install Sophos Anti-Virus (...'MSXML2, publicKeyToken="...";
http://www.sophos.com/support/knowledgebas...13767.html#ads)
And as I noticed several entries in Ad-Watch while I tried to install
Sophos Anti-Virus, I stopped Ad-Aware. Well that was it, no more
problems so far ...

But now I have reactivated Ad-Aware and Ad-Watch again and the
problems have again begun: Auto-Update of Sophos-Anti-Virus
crashed again. This is of course a very important part of
virus-protection. Therefore I have to stop Ad-Aware (and Ad-Watch)
to prevent problems with Sophos Anti-Virus.

Is there a fix available or what else can I do to stop these
problems of Ad-Watch / Ad-Adware with Sophos Anti-Virus?

My System:
- Windows XP pro, SP 2 with all patches etc. and with Windows-
Defender (in use since a very long time).
- Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE professional: build 1.06r1, definition-file
SE1R155 26.02.2007
Ad-Aware is started automatically on startup of my PC. After a delay
a complete scanning is performed.
- Lavasoft Ad-Watch: build 399

Thank you!

Hello Bernd

As an Ad-Watch user and a paid customer you are entitled to the free customer support available here:
http://lavasoft.com/support/supportcenter/

Which usually gets a much quicker response than here in the user forums.

However, it sounds like you inadvertently blocked some necessary registry changes during the Sophos Install using Ad-Watch. You need to turn off both automatic and active on protection when installing new programs (unless you are prepared to accept all registry changes that might be generated with the installation of the new software). I would also advise you to turn off the Ad-Aware to start at startup for now. Then, install your program. When done - restart your computer to make sure all changes have a chance to take effect.

Turn back on your Ad-Aware and let us know if you have any notifications of registry changes you are not sure about.

I'm now subscribed to this topic so I will receive a notice from the board as soon as you reply, so I can be here much more quickly than it has taken to get to your new topic.
