Visitors to this website http://abc.net.au/tv/newinventors/ are invited to vote on inventions using the VOTE NOW button. Doing so is supposed to produce this pop-up screen
http://www2b.abc.net.au/votecentral/Client/Login.aspx?E=23

Note that if you have Ad-Watch monitoring enabled you will not see the voting pop-up so you must turn it off.

I cannot find anything in the url blacklist for the website address so I enabled event logging and the following report was produced,

2/22/2007 11:32:33 AM> Popup blocked (http://www2b.abc.net.au/votecentral/Client/Login.aspx?E=23 - Windows Internet Explorer)

I discovered that the required pop-up is allowed if I turn off aggressive pop-up blocking in tweaked Ad-Watch settings under Ad-Aware config cog but I am concerned that I now risk the possibility of unwanted pop-ups being allowed.

Is there an explanantion for this Ad-Watch behaviour and is there a better way to allow such pop-ups without sacrificing other Ad-Watch characteristics?

Hello Ross,

Turning off the aggressive popup blocking is, indeed, the method you need to use to allow certain popups that are not listed on the black list. When you are done, you can re-enable the popup blocking feature.

A more detailed explanation can be found on our FAQ page for Ad-Aware Plus
http://www.lavasoft.com/support/faqs.php

Q: How do I allow certain pop-ups on my computer?

A: Ad-Watch employs two methods to block pop-ups: aggressive pop-up blocking and black listing.

Note: A white list allows all sites on the list, and blocks any others. A black list blocks all sites on the list, and allows any others. White lists are not included in the current version of Ad-Aware SE, and you cannot add pop-ups to your list of trusted sites.

If you would like to see a particular pop-up but are unable to (and you know that your browser or other software is not blocking pop-ups), check to see if the pop-up is being blocked by Ad-Watch through its aggressive pop-up blocking. If it is not, you need to modify your black list.

The aggressive pop-up blocking feature is based on behavior and cannot be modified to allow through certain pop-ups. It is turned on by default. You can turn it off by following the directions below, but we recommend turning the option back on after you have finished viewing the pop-up.

* Open Ad-Aware SE.
* Click on the "Ad-Aware Configuration Window" icon.
* Click on "Tweak."
* Click the plus sign next to "Ad-Watch" to expand the Ad-Watch branch in the tree view.
* Deselect the "Block pop-ups aggressively" option.
