Full Version: Warning about Zone Alarm - though not installed

When attempting to install latest version of the Firewall, I get a warning that ZoneLabs Zone Alarm is installed. I uninstalled it ages ago, and there appear to be no registry keys etc belonging to Zone Alarm.

I then clicked "continue". Personal Firewall appeared to install using the default options, but when I rebooted, I couldn't connect to the internet at all! I'm using XP Pro SP2. I've tried various install configurations but still cannot connect to the internet unless I uninstall it.

Can someone please advise a solution, or advise how I get my money back? (I stupidly bought it, assuming that Lavasoft's stuff would work out the box).

Zone alarm has a very bad habbit of getting messed up and not uninstalling correctly, post a hijackthis log.

Sorry, I have no idea what this means.

I was telling you that zonealarm doesn't uninstall correctly sometimes. Parts of zonealarm get left behind and sometimes left actively running. On a technical level, zonealarm is still installed.

Also, post a hijackthis log.

I just started using the Lavasoft Firewall after years with ZoneAlarm--sorry if this is ancient history by now.

There are a couple of checklists I've come upon for ferreting out leftover bits of Zone Alarm, e.g.,

A simpler thing might be just to reinstall ZoneAlarm, edit the Uninstall shortcut (say, after right-clicking on the menu choice) to add /clean at the end of the path, and then unininstall again.
