Good evening

I have been using Ad-Aware se Personal for months, up to now without any problem and quite successfully. Lately, when running a full system scan, the scan gets stuck at the following operation:

Deep Scanning files on C:... Objects scanned: 98175
C:\System Volume Information\_restore{D185B830-16F3-4E35-AF2E-A5FBD54803C0}\RP633
0 new critical objects

When doing a smart scan, it runs through and after the first cleanup, no critical objects are found.

My PC has Windows XP Professional SP2
other antivirus / firewall etc software running:
- Bit Defender 9 Standard
- Sygate Firewall
- Zyxel Firewall Zywall 2
- Ad-Aware SE Status: SE1R109 22.05.2006 loaded

What is happening and what can I do to get Ad-Aware working properly ?

Regards

Hi HansJ,

Looks like it has problems scanning your system restore points.
You can do two things here..... Or you can flush your system restore points:
Take a look here how to do this.

Or you can modify the scan Settings in Adaware SE.
To do this, open Adaware SE > Click the Gear wheel at the top of the Ad-Aware window.
Click the Scanning button (left) > Select drives & folders to scan > expand your local drive (should be C:) and uncheck System Volume information > proceed.

Another option to try is to deselect the "Unload recognised modules during scan" option:
  • Launch Ad-Aware SE
  • Click on the Gear Icon to access the Configuration Menu
  • Select "Tweak -> Scanning Engine"
  • Deselect "Unload recognised modules during scan" option
  • Click OK

Hi Miekiemoes, hi Corrine

Thank you for your help.
I tried all your suggestions, with mixed results:
1. uncheck System volume information: Ad-Aware did not bother whether it was checked or unchecked: so the test got stuck at the same place
2. deselect the "Unload recognised modules during scan: the test got stuck at the same place. Additionally, Bit Defender detected a virus at the C:\system volume\information\_restore{..........} with the lovely name of Adware.Newdotnet.D and claimed to have it blocked. The message said: Your computer did not get infected. (how can my computer not get infected if the virus is already on the C-drive ???)
Anyway I still had the option of
3. flushing the system restore points what I did.
This solution worked out, the full scan run through without problems and without any critical objects found.

Thanks again
