During last month I have this to pop up. It always appears when I open the IE 6.0.2 where the default starting page is my webpage.

08.02.2007 15:08:51 - Registry modification detected
Root:HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Key:Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
Value:Start Page
Data:file:///C:/.../.../index.html
New Data:http://www.google.com

I was looking through this forum and found one simular problem but haven't found the exact solution.
Please, tell me how to fix. I use the program Ad-Watch SE

Hi Dinoel,

Firstly, open Ad-Watch and make sure that Active is selected (green tick) in the bottom panel, not Automatic. If both are selected, deselect (red cross) Automatic (which silently blocks all changes, desired or not).

Then open IE and when the Ad-Watch alert for www.google.com appears, click "Block".

Navigate to your desired Start Page (ie: your webpage) - select the IE Tools > Internet Options > General tab and in the Home Page section, select "Use Current" and ensure that the correct URL is displayed. Then click Apply > OK.

Ad-Watch should pop up a new alert, detailing the change to the desired Start Page (your webpage URL) - as long as it is correct, click "Accept" and the problem should disappear.

Hi Spike!
Thanks a lot for answering.

I did as you said, but the problem did not disappear.
I tried several times. In IE Tools > Internet Options > General tab > Home Page
section: I typed some different URLs, "Use Current" and "Use Blank". All wanted
to make a new data:http://www.google.com

Here how it looks again:

1st step: changing starting page to blank and accept Ad-Watch alert:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
13.02.2007 2:01:41 - Registry modification detected
Root:HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Key:Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
Value:Start Page
Data:file:///C:/.../index.html
New Data:about:blank

2nd step: close IE and when open again - Ad-Watch gives the alert:
------------------------------------------------------------------
13.02.2007 2:02:01 - Registry modification detected
Root:HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Key:Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
Value:Start Page
Data:about:blank
New Data:http://www.google.com

So, I have to block it again and again. Automatic blocking helps, but the problem exists and
blinks every time I open IE. Can it be some script that wants to change the default starting
page everytime I open IE? How to find and delete it? or is it another problem?

Have you by any chance downloaded a program (ie: around the time this started) that included the Google Toolbar ? Some downloads/installations include this, with the default set to include/install the Toolbar - one has to actually deselect it manually, before continuing with installation.

Yes, I have Google Toolbar installed in the IE, but that was long before the problem appeared. The bar is disabled, even though I looked carefully through the options the bar offers and did not find the features that can cause the modification of the registry, i.e., changing the default starting page to google.com.

I have just uninstall the google toolbar - the problem did not disappear. The following file remained: GoogleToolbar1.dll It is located in the GoogleEarth folder in the Program Files. Should I just delete it?

What do you want home page set to? If it was google.com, did you accept that change? Also, post a hijackthis log.
