hi there, i think i have found the right registry folder although what do i ammend in this registry key?
Hi mehere,
had same problem - found this on microsoft site which helped me locate what to amend. For xp,
insstead of gpedit, follow instructions below. If still want to use regedit directly, instructions here also at bottom.
Hope this helps.
I'm new to the forum, but have fixed this exe & lnk problem quite a few times now on various pcs, all xp, and in my opinion, something is misleading adwatch into believing it needs to take some action to defend the registry. ( it only does it automatically if adwatch is set to automatic, and lock executable files etc is ticked (see earlier posts in this thread)). Each time I have had the problem it has been immediately after fast user switching, so I would also recommend turning this off ( in user accounts), although I cannot be sure whether there are other triggers.
If you are set to manual in adwatch, the same thing might still happen again in the future, but you get the chance with each notification, whether to accept or block the change to registry. in my experience, you need to accept the change, not block. The change strangley appears to be putting things right, and if you block them, the same exe & lnk problem returns.
good luck with your repairs !
