I do not use my computer for much so pop ups never bothered me much. But ther is a site , yahoo Music, that I did not want AD-Watch to block. When I click on a music video and a window starts to open and then Ad-watch shuts it down. I know I can click and stop monitoring. But is there a place to add something to a do not block list ?

Hi TinaMay,

Ad-Watch contains a "blacklist" of undesirable sites (but not a "whitelist" of allowed sites", unfortunately).

Firstly click on the "Configuration Cog" at the top-right of the main Ad-Aware Status screen. Select Tweak and expand the Ad-Watch section. Deselect (red cross) "Block popups aggressively". Then try and see if a music video will play.

If that does not stop the blocking, open Ad-Watch, click "Tools" at the bottom-right. Select Options > Event History (at the bottom of the list). Select (green tick) "Create Event -istory" then click "Events" to take you back to the normal Ad-Watch interface.

Try opening a music video again - if it is blocked, go back to the "Options > Event History" section and click on "View Current Event History". The log-file will open in Notepad and have an entry like:
8/12/2006 2:37:47 p.m.> Popup blocked (http://ads.xtra.co.nz/event.ng/Type=click&FlightID=4796&AdID=8831&TargetID=388&Redirect=http:%2 - Microsoft Internet Explorer)

Then look and see if the pop-up address (in the above event it is ads.xtra.co.nz/event.ng) is at all similar to the list:

If it is, you may edit the list to remove the site (remember that they are there for a good reasen). You can also add sites that you don't want to visit, to this blacklist. Close/re-open Ad-Watch and Ad-Aware. If the music is still being blocked, you can turn off Ad-Watch's pop-up blocker entirely - under Tools > Options > Blocking Options, deselect red cross "Activate Popup blocker".

Let me know how you go on,

Regards,

Spike

Well I did what you suggested but when awevlog.txt opened there is nothing in it. I tried deleting and clearing it and another one was created but it is always empty.

Hi TinaMay,

Which of the above settings are in your current Ad-Watch configuration?

Also, once the "Create Event History" is selected, try restarting your system, then try and play a music video and see if an Event is logged.

Regards,

Spike

NB: One thing I should have mentioned before - make sure that Ad-Watch is set to "Active" and not "Automatic" (look at the bottom of the Ad-Watch screen) - Auctomatic silently blocks all changes to your system, especially the registry (not good when you are trying to eg: install/modify a program. Active pops up an alert when a change is detected - read the alert and if it relates to a change that you have just initiated, Accept it. If it appears out-of-the-blue, read it very carefully and unless you understand exactly what it relates to, Block it (better safe than sorry).
