Full Version: Installation fails with I/O message

First, a little background. I had AdAware Se Personal installed and was using it wonderfully. Then I began having problems with the update feature. I began updating using the manual method about four months ago and it worked fine. Today, I was unable to even use that method...so after trying a number of suggestions in the support forum, I decided to uninstall the program (used the Windows XP uninstaller) and reinstall. After downloading the latest version from the Lavasoft site I tried to install.

Each time I have tried to run it, I get the following error: An I/O error occurred while installing this file. This is normally caused by bad installation media or a corrupt installation file.

Am I missing something? I have rebooted, defragged, did disk cleanup...still get the same error.

Help please!

Can you uninstall the copy you have then Reboot (ie: Re-start your PC)
after rebooting do a serch for any remaining Lavasoft folder and remove it .
now can you clear out your cache folder ie: temporary internet folder There are some free programs that you can use that will do that for you if needed like wink.gif
CCleaner
(Note in CCleaner: go to >options > advanced > Uncheck "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours"). but see CCleaner Set up

After doing that redownload a fresh copy of Ad-aware SE Build 106 thenuse the WebUpDate
to get the latest Definition file
(SE1R107 09.05.2006) then sscan doing a "Full Scan" and then post your logfile here by using the Add-Reply Feature .
As Logs are stored in :
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Lavasoft\Ad-aware\Logs\.
An easy way to get there is to
click Start,
click Run
And type in and press ENTER: %appdata%
then click Lavasoft
then Ad-Aware
and then Logs.
scroll down to find the latest one that you have
(by date & time)
and open it right Click select all
copy and then paste the contents of it here.
(Make sure that all of your Logfile has been posted, sometimes it will require two post's to get it all)
I recommend that you use the WebUpDate just before you scan that way you will always be up to date.

(note The Application Data is a hidden folder, so you will need to show hidden files and folders
and for Windows 98/ME users your logs are stored in
C:\WINDOWS\All Users\Application Data\ ) by default.

Grafx,
Thank you so much for taking the time to help me out! I really appreciate it.

I cleaned out all my temporary files, made sure all copies of anything related to Lavasoft was uninstalled/deleted and then downloaded the Adaware SE personal 1.06. I saved the file to my desktop and the then double-clicked on it. Every time I try to run it, I get the following error:

"Could not initialize installation. Could not extract Wise0132.dll to C:\docume~1\pbalacek....temp etc. CRC does not match."

I have tried deleting and redownloading twice, rebooted in between downloads just to be sure.

Help!
Patti

Patti,
Please can you make sure that you have all critical update for the version of windows that you are running form microsoft.
Also see 'Could not initialize installation (CRC)'. What could be wrong?
QUOTE
1. The installation performs a byte for byte comparison to ensure that the file is not corrupt. If the installation file is incomplete/truncated/corrupt, then the CRC check will fail.

2. The Windows and/or Temp directories are not writable.
