Not sure what happened, was away for a while, younger siblings decided to use the computer, messed up with some anti virus settings, and now all of my icons throughout my computer, in basically alll folders , along with my explorer bar all have little glitchy lines. All around the explorer bar and at the base of many icons.

Not sure how long i have had it, as i have been having choke in CS:S when i have tried to play it for 3 weeks or so (thinking these may be connected as nothing is wrong with my internet connection). But these glitchy lines are new and slowing the computer down greatly.

Run this for me please


Please download VundoFix.exe to your C:\.
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
Turn your computer back on.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

View hidden files and folders:
Click Start.
Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab.
Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.


Run HijackThis
Scan and when it finishes, put a check mark only next to these following items : (if present)

Restart your computer in Safe Mode.

1. If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
2. Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
3. Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu will appear. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
4. Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
5. Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe Mode.
6. Login on your usual account.

Next do a file Search & delete these files if found

Now Restart in Normal Mode

the PC is doing better or the same.

Please download ComboFix and save it to your desktop.

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.

When it's done running it will produce a log for you. Please post that log in your next reply.

There is a process or two that do not show up underneath the HJT process list, let me know if you wish to know what they are.

By the way, my splash screens and startup screens are all glitchy as well as the icons on my desktop and any icons on the computer for that matter. (start up screen and splash screen come up with a bunch of blue glitch like boxes instead of a nice solid color, some of them look as if they are oriental characters).

Thank you very much, hopefully they will be able to solve this issue. Now, what i have been thinking and experiencing here... may be a double whammy. I may have a trojan or other Malware on here that is slowing my internet connection down, as it has really become slow as of late. But i also think that my video card may be dying. As it cannot handle any of the games i play and, get this, i updated my ati catalyst drivers last night, and now NO icons on my desktop have the glitchy ness, or any in the intraweb windows either (back arrow, stop, reload, etc.) But, instead, now the little icons in my quick tray (bottom right hand corner) have the glitchy stuff, as well as the little icons that appear on the toolbar next to the running processes. EX: it will show on my tool bar that i am having a conversation with someone on xfire, but the logo next to the text, that should be the xfire logo, looks like this : | | | | | meaning there are stripes of blank and stripes of the logo, so you can half tell what it is, but not fully.

I have a bud who is letting me borrow a temp video card, to check and see if that is the problem, i will post here and let you know if it is. I read somewhere also that dust and dirt on the card could cause things to load slower or run very crapily, so i plan on cleaning it as well. I'll keep you informed .

So, in light of me thinking it was my video card, i had a friend loan me a spare one of his, only to find out it was broken.

So i had uninstalled all the ATI stuff, and redownloaded the latest catalyst driver for my 9800 radeon.

Now i log back in, and things have gotten worse. I am getting a blue screen of death occasionally, and now i have these damn lines all over my desktop :

I definately believe it is my video card going, as when i try to do the ATITOOL test, i used to get a bunch of yellow, but since i have re-installed my ATI gfx card, it gives me an error that says something like "Error could not dectect Direct3D Init" and then it wont run. Any thoughts on these new events? The resolution will not change properly either.



------ *edit* why would my computer switch it into 16 bit colors. Switching into 32 bit has remedied the problem, but some icons are still messed up... when i switched to 16 bit colors, and it got like that, is that an indication of a dying video card? :/ Btw: Resolution says it is 1024 X 768, but its really not, as my icons are outta whack, and whenever i move a window around my desktop or scroll up and down a web page, it appears to lag, or be wavey like, respectively.



-----edit 2... found a different case of this, basically the EXACT thing that i have, guy on that board suggested that the card was fizzling out, so im going to put my money on that.
