Greetings Lavasoft and community members!

Recently i realised i hadn't done a scan in ages! I thought to myself why not perform a full system scan whilst i go in the bath (detailed i know, but im trying to include as much information as possible) after my scan was completed it found something in the region of 61 items to remove. I removed the items and then rebooted my laptop. here is where the problems occured.

The login screen is fine, i type in my password and log into my account.

The screen stops with my dektop background and my centered mouse, i can move my mouse but the laptop doesn't repond in any way. Ten minutes later i return and eventually, it's booted up. I check my internet connection and it says:

"Aqquiring Network Adress"

This is neverending and my ip is currently:

IP ADDRESS: 0. 0. 0. 0

Im stuck with no internet and i have important coursework deadlines approaching. Im desperate for a fix. Im currently re-running ad-aware again to see if maybe it'll correct itself. This happened on my computor also and i remember using soem TCP/IP fix of some sort however i have no way of getting it to my laptop as the internet is down and i dont have a Memory Stick.

I tried system restore and it can't restore to ANY of the points i set.

Please, Im desperate for help.

Ask me any more information you'd need.

Thanks. Dominic Kirkwood.

Hi

What version of Windows are you running and at what service pack level is it?

Thanks

Couldn't tell you about service pack, care to tell me how i can find out?

I am running windows XP.
Ad Astra
Hi

On the system you are having problems with right click on the "My Computer" icon. Select properties and under the general tab it should show the service pack level (if any) under the text starting Windows XP.

Alright Ad Astra, im on Service Pack 2.

Do you think you have a suggestion for me to fix my problem?
Ad Astra
Hi

Service Pack 2 is good news as that introduced a new command to Windows that will hopefully help.

Click on "Start" then select run in the box please enter the following

cmd

click the OK button to proceed. This will open a command window (black background) now enter into the command window the following:

netsh winsock show catalog > C:\lsp.txt

then press the return key to run the command. This will output a listing of the current LSPs to a file.

Then enter the following text at the command prompt:

netsh winsock reset catalog

press the return key to run the command and then reboot your PC.

This will restore the default windows LSPs and hopefully should fix your network connection problem. Post back if it helps or not.

Just to be sure please then post the contents of the file you created with the first command above. Open windows explorer and navigate to the top C: folder and double click on lsp.txt. This will open notepad with the contents of the file showing which Winsock LSPs are installed. Cut and paste the contents in a reply.
