My son downloaded some video clips and now my desktop is infected with these 2 viruses:
Win32.Trojan.MatrisHasYou
Win32.P2P-Worm.Alcan.a
I've read some of the step-by-step instructions on how to remove them but my PC now runs so slow that I can't accomplish anything after a regular boot-up. I can remove them with AdAware if I boot up in safe mode, but from safe mode I can't get to the web and both viruses come back to life when I reboot in standard mode. IOW, I'm in a very annoying catch-22.
On the plus side, if anyone is taking up a collection to find and eliminate from the gene pool the genius that wrote these bugs, I will gladly contribute.

Seriously, if someone has some advice I'm all ears.
Next time you post please inform us about your Operating System, Windows 98, ME, XP ?
In most operating systems you should be able to have Networking capabilities
Please Download HijackThis.zip from:
http://216.180.233.162/~merijn/programs.phpCreate a folder called, for example, C:\Program Files\HJThis
and extract HijackThis.zip into that folder.
RENAME HiJackThis.exe to something like HIGHJT.exe, this can trick a virus...
Create a HJT shortcut to your desktop.
Close all applications such as browsers including and especially Explorer,
nothing but maybe Notepad should be open.
Run HijackThis.
First time users will have a logfile generated automatically.
Please, do not fix anything, post that logfile here
