Full Version: Problem using McAfee VirusScan with Ad-Watch

I've happily used McAfee VirusScan in combination with Ad-Aware Personal Edition for some time now. Recently, however, I purchased Ad-Aware Professional Edition for the Ad-Watch feature. Since then I find that within a couple of minutes of logging on my VirusScan program disables itself. Checking the Ad-Watch window I see several registry changes which appear to relate McAfee files.

Is your Adwatch set to Active or Automatic? See the green tick and the red cross in this screenshot:

Automatic silently blocks all changes to your system (whether desired or not, good or bad), whereas Active pops-up an alert each time an attempted change is detected. Read the alert, and if you are happy with the change (or initiated it by installing/editing a program etc) then Accept it.

If an alert appears out-of-the blue, be very wary as to the change being made.

In your case, it could be that McAfee virus-scan needs to make some changes to run efficiently, but is being blocked persistently.
