Hello,

first excuse my bad english... wink.gif

So on several computers, Ad-watch corrupts the registry (exe and lnk association ), that 's not a problem with the doug web site, I repair them.

But now I'have a pop up wich appears before the session opened. On this pop up the caracteres are illegibles. If I click on "Ok" the sessions appears normaly and computer run correctly.

I try a lot of things but no success. The pop up appears in the Safe Mode too.

My computer is clean of spywares and virus (scan with NAV 2007 and Bit Defender 10 on another computer and I scan with spybot, hijackthis and ewido)

You can create this pop up by going here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

and tape text in the 2 keys: LegalNoticeCaption and LegalNoticeText.

I check these keys but they are empty (I suppress them to be sure).

So did someone as an idea of how removing this pop up?

Thanks for reading and helping me smile.gif

Bye

PS: a picture of the pop up taken with a phone:

Hi, Jam1. Welcome.

I'm glad you fixed the .lnk/.exe problem. Doug Knox's reg fixes are great! You can avoid those problems by turning off Automatic with Ad-Watch or allowing the changes when you are installing software.

Unfortunately, I cannot read the message on the screen copy. If this is a message from Microsoft, the problems with Ad_Watch may have corrupted your system so that Microsoft cannot verify that your operating system is genuine. If from Microsoft, I suggest that you contact Microsoft.

Your English is fine, but without knowing where you are located, all I can provide you is general information for contacting Microsoft:

This is a free service and toll-free call.

1-866-PCSAFETY
or
1-866-727-2338
This phone number is for virus and other security-related support. It is available 24 hours a day for the U.S. and Canada.

For support outside the United States and Canada, please contact your Microsoft Help and Support worldwide. Go to this page and choose your region from the box in the upper right corner:
http://support.microsoft.com/?pr=SecurityHome )

Note: In the event the message is not from Microsoft, I suggest you create a new thread in the appropriate Ad-Aware forum and post a full scan logfile.

Best of luck.

It seems that several of us who have lost our file associations also are cursed with this message box. From reviewing the various posts I conclude that everyone with this issue also gets garbage characters - but of a slightly different flavor in each case. My particular variety is a series of three small upright rectangles. There is also a cursor that can be moved but does nothing else. Choosing OK via the mouse or ENTER allows the system to proceed to the user accounts panel.

Ad-Aware IMHO is the culprit. Can't anyone from LavaSoft step up to the plate here and offer some insight into how to deal with this message box. Resolving the missing icons from the system tray (as they disappeared at the same time as the file associations) would also be nice. Does LavaSoft even have any support?

And why I wonder was I able to use this software for weeks and then out of the blue - no installs or changes - pow! ... there goes half a work day or more!

Speaking I'm sure for others as well as myself, thanks to any that might offer to assist,
Steph
