Ok I tried all the suggestions given in that one "pinned" thread...I ran the windows cleanup, I've defragged the hard drive, I ran spybot s&d, I ran Housecall just earlier, and Ad-Aware still freezes when it gets to "deep scanning local registry." I tried running it from the "Run" command on the windows start menu as suggested, and I don't know what that's supposed to do but it still freezes. When I run a full scan, up to the point that it freezes, Ad-Aware is not finding any objects whatsoever.

I need some input here cuz I have no clue what the problem could be

cool.gif Hello, I joined this forum to discuss how I get around the freezing problem on my computer. Ad-aware hangs when deep scanning the registry (typelib). When I undo Spybots 1.4 Immunize, SpywareBlaster 3.5.1 restricted sites, and IE Spyad, I can scan with ad-aware 1.06r1 without it hanging or not responding as in task manager status. My problem seems to be when I have my restricted sites zone in IE7 loaded up. If I load Spybots Immunize alone, there is a short hang. If I load SpywareBlasters restricted sites alone, there is a short hang. If I load SpywareBlasters IE cookies and active x alone, there is no hang. If I load IE Spyad alone, there is a long.........hang. This leads me to believe since IE Spyad loads the most, that the more there is, the longer the hang. I realize this is not a solution but just a step toward one. I don't want to have to disable and then enable these programs to run ad-aware. All programs are up to date. My computer is free of all nasties. Windows XP Home SP2. If any administrators see this post please elaborate on my findings. I hope this helps as I am a loyal user of Ad-aware!

Hi ghunt & Music Man,

Have you tried all the steps suggested in this Topic: Unable to complete scan ?

Let us know how you get on,

Yes, I tried everything in that post, that's what I said.

Hi ghunt,

Please try a custom scan, leaving out "deep scanning local registry."

Select "Scan Now" then "Use custom Scanning Options"

Click on "Customise" then "Select drives and folders to scan"

Deselect the part of the scan whereit freezes:

See if Ad-Aware will complete the Custom Scan. If it does, delete/quarantine any items found, then try running a normal Full Scan.

Spike

Ok finally got it...

ran custom scan with everything but deep scanning the registry, found 10 objects, removed those...then it completed a full scan.

That's good to hear, ghunt smile.gif

If problems re-occur, please let us know.
