Hi the_engineer & hammer63,
I'm sorry for the confusion What I see is :To avoid any further unnecessary time-wasting for you, I will post the URL of the www.download.com page that it takes you to:
http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Person...dl&tag=top5I'm truely sorry for whatever glitch is hiding the link from you - it is not deliberate - as you can see, the initial poster in this thread had no problems using it. (Have checked on the PCs of 5 other residents of my apartment complex, and the link shows on all of them, even when not signed-in).
The other place where you
should be able to reach that URL is:
Click to view attachmentClick on the green "Free Download" link in the upper-right corner - or is it still showing blank?
There were some initial problems with the new website (I had to use Firefox, to navigate it) but IE 6 & 7 have been working fine for a while now - have you tried viewing with a different browser (other than Netscape, the_engineer) - say Firefox?
Please let me know if you still encounter problems.
Regards,
Spike
Spike,
I figured out what the problem is! I use Norton Personal Firewall (NPF) which includes a built-in ad blocker. At the top of the browser there is an NPF button where you can select whether to 'Block ads on this site' or not. If there is a check mark next to it you will see the home page show just like the_engineer posted it. The Products menu only shows 3 of the actual 7 choices and you do not see the green box with the link to the free version. Also, the links do not show in the postings for those of us using ad blockers. If you
uncheck the option to 'Block ads on this site', the page will reload, and everything will show just as it does in your screenshot Spike! Also your links now appear in the postings.
STRANGE!!! No wonder it made some of us users feel like the free version was being hidden. But I now realize that wasn't intentional because it also causes some of your retail products not to show up in the Products menu. So I owe you an apology for that statement.
The thing that bugs me is that, even though this is not necessarily the website designer's fault (unless he can use some alternative coding to prevent this), it could adversely affect future potential retail customers if they come to your site with intentions of making a purchase, then go to your Products menu and not being able to readily find what they came for, leave in frustration.
Perhaps you could place a statement prominently on your home page recommending that visitors turn off ad blockers for this site or they may get unexpected results.
I hope the_engineer sees this and lets us know if this fixes his problem too. His post didn't show the title bar of his browser so I can't tell if he uses NPF too or not.
Have a great day everybody and I hope this helps someone else too!
