Hello, I am trying to fix my computer after having been infected with the "C:\Program Files\Perfect Codec\isamonitor.exe" & "C:\Program Files\Perfect Codec\pmsngr.exe". This is something that will put a Trojan downloader onto your computer and wreak havoc on it. It takes over your home page and also installs a bunch of "fake" ads and popups which try to scare you into installing more "fake" programs that will in turn wreak even more havoc. It will also install a "protection bar" Toolbar onto your browser that you will not be able to remove by means of "add/delete programs". This "codec" will also disable your "system restore" functions along with several things: scandisc, for example. I have FINALLY gotten the majority of it safely removed and all but the scandisc restored and am now trying to add the McAfee Internet Security Suite 2007 for added protection.

First of all, I would like to say how impressed I have been with the ease and effectiveness of the Ad-Aware SE product. I have been using it for several months now without instance. That being said, I unfortunately have to remove it temporarily to be able to install the new McAfee Internet Security Suite 2007 software, as it will not let me instal due to a "conlflict" it appears to have with it being on there first. I know that it can and will run fine with it on the computer AFTER the McAfee has been installed, 2 of my friends have their computers setup this way and runs without trouble, and which they did not have trouble with the installation of the new software after uninstalling the Ad-Aware SE Personal. Now the problem I am having is that I have uninstalled the Ad-Aware SE using the Uninstall function in the Ad-Aware "Start" menu. I recieved the message that the Ad-Aware SE was safely removed and after several attempts to now get the McAfee to install, I still recieve the "conflict" error from McAfee. I need help to get the Ad-Aware SE completely removed, temporarily. I have done searches for any remnants of the "Ad-Aware SE Personal" folders, components and software, including looking for and Lavasoft folders, components and software, using both the "search" in the Start menu as well as looking for it by means of the Windows Explorer.....to no avail. I have tapped out my personal knowledge of this and am in desperate need of assistance.

I would like to thank, in advance, all of who offer assistance. smile.gif

Hi shoot_a_monkey,

See my post in this Topic (similar subject): Help me remove ad-aware se personal (temporarily), need removal tool

There is a link to a McAfee Forum Topic that contains regedit instructions to enable the removal of all traces of Ad-Aware. (As always, be very careful when using regedit).

Hope that this is of use to you,

Regards,

Spike

Hello spike-nz,

Just wanted to say thank you for your assist. I viewed the link to the post you recommended, unfortunately I was still unable to completely get it removed sad.gif. I did find another post from AlexC on here where they were having the same trouble(s):

http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=4157

I was able to use the trial version of "Your Uninstaller! 2006" to remove the Ad-Aware SE Personal completely, i did have to reinstall it first though, and was then able to install all of the McAfee Internet Security Suite 2007 without any trouble. As in the post from AlexC I also was able to reinstall the Ad-Aware SE Personal afterwards and now they both work fine.

Thank you so very much for your help. Hopefully this will be something that will be resolved by McAfee. I have left some posts/complaints on a McAfee support/help about the trouble that I, and apparently many others, have had with it regarding this issue and still have not gotten a reply.

Thanks again,

Mike

I too am having the same problem. I cannot find any trace of AdAware on my computer but McAfee does. I had to remove Spyware Doctor and PCTools were fantastic and very helpful. They were talking to McAfee to work around the conflict. Lavasoft won't talk to me, let alone McAfee.

I am going round and round in circles because I can't install my McAfee AV. I am currently using AVG free AV till I can resolve this issue, so any help greatfully received!

Hi shoot_a_monkey,

Glad to hear that you have managed to find your way through to the end smile.gif

@bendigedig,

Did you try the suggestions in my post further up this thread?

Which version of Ad-Aware do you have - the (free) Personal, or the (paid-for) Plus/Pro ?
