I have just started to receive an error ( when I start Adaware SE ) that my defs file is corrupt. The defs file along with the old defs file that was in the same folder and downloaded the latest definitions. I am still getting the same error message. The system is Win XP Pro.
Can anybody help please.

Hi silverfox,

That unfortunately can happen ( I had it a couple of years ago).

Follow my suggestions in this thread: Error retrieving update

It is the 4th post in the thread.

I have tried that but the problem still occours.

ie the message showing that the defs are corrupt and then you are allowed to enter the application.

Hi silverfox,

My advice is that that problem has been corrected (haven't tried it out to make sure myself, yet).

Would suggest that you repeat the exercise, to see if you still get any error messages.

Thanks for your feedback,

Unfortunately the problem still occours. I notice that the build number of the defs file is the same so it is unlikely to be solved with build 154.

Hi silverfox,

Have just manually updated the defs file, using both IE and Firefox - no problems at all, no warning messages.

Also changed my defs.ref.old file to defs.ref (kept a copy of the original, for safety) - the "normal" way of updating worked without a problem.

I have tried downloading the latest defs file ( renaming the old one first ) and the problem still exists. There appears to be a lot of problems similar to this at the moment, this is looking like a serious problem which needs looking at by Lavasoft.

I had the same problem earlier today.

In the meantime, perform a manual update. Close the program and replace your current 'defs.ref' file (located in the folder: ProgramFiles/Lavasoft/AdAwareSEPersonal) for the latest one downloaded from here. (unzip the file, then replace)

The problem is still occouring even with today's update. It must be one of those intermittent problems that occours every so often with software. I am glad I am using the free version and not the paid then I would be not very happy at all.

No problems here with the today's update.

It's definitely a problem with the servers at LS. When that happens, I can't even browse this forum or the mainpage huh.gif

I think it is about time LS stepped in to this and resolved the problem. This is getting to be a very common problem for eveybody and needs to be looked at. Not resolving simple problems like this can very easily affect a companies reputation. A bad name for customer service is very difficult to repair.

Hi silverfox,

I would suggest that you post in this Topic: New Lavasoft website design, Post your feedback here

While it is an issue affecting some (but not all) users, suggest that they get the matter fixed before the new Build is released. Rather than making it a request for help, make it a matter of informing them of a deficiency which needs correcting. The Topic is monitored by the Research Staff.

If you wish, you could provide a link back too this Topic (ie copy/paste the address above - http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?act=post&do=reply_post&f=6&t=3917 )

Just keep it to a simple reqest - that may produce the best answer smile.gif
