Thought I would put up this topic in this section so forum members could add any feedback or comments you would like to make smile.gif

Hi Janie,

Having problems accessing most of the new Website.

When I try to access most pages, I get the following blank screen, with a black bar across the top:

Hopefully, the engineers will soon have the glitches sorted out.

Spike

Thanks for posting that, Spike. wub.gif

I'm not getting that at all here (using Firefox)

What browser are you using, and what security settings?
Judah
Hi,
This layout is awful. It is running way off the right side. And I have two sets of scroll bars, one set on the forum page, and the scroll bars on my browser (IE).
I'll try to attach a screen shot. Well, it won't let me. It keeps logging me off.
I have exactly a 3" high view of the forum with a scroll bar on the bottom and right-side. On the left of the forum page is the Suppot Center, Security Center, etc., menu, and the Black Lavasoft header at the top of the page. Is this the way it is suppose to be.

Much too difficult to read through, especially having to use two sets of scroll bars. One set to scroll the forum page up/down and left/right, and the IE set to scroll it to the right in order to read it.

Uuugh! wacko.gif

I'm still getting logged off when I try to preview so I will just post.

Hi Janie,
QUOTE

That was with IE 7, in Trusted Zone (the only change from default settings was a couple of items changed from "Disable" to "Prompt").

Duh !!! unsure.gif Neither am I, now that I have tried Firefox - Been too busy getting used to IE 7, to think of something as simple as that cool.gif

Still, at least we have learned that what works with Firefox, seems to be a problem with IE 7.

Regards,

Spike

EDIT: I spoke too quickly - even with Firefox, I can't get the Support Center's FAQs to expand - unfortunate, because I need the info to reply to a poster. Oh well, I'll give hime the link and ask him to check back in a day or two smile.gif

Hi Judah,

I noticed that too when accessing the forum through the main website. Try accessing the forum directly using this URL

Hi Spike,

They may still be tweaking the FAQ pages, I couldn't get them to come up either. Meantime, most of FAQ are reposted here:
http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showforum=80

I used IE this morning (IE6 SP2) and I still didn't get those blank pages you first posted. Maybe it is because you're using IE7 which is a beta release?

Quite possibly could be - I'm now using Firefox to access the new website.

Thanks,

EDIT:

Thanks, Janie - know those FAQ's well - the ones that I need form Support Center > Faqs are:

"I try to change something in the Windows startup settings, but upon reboot the changes I made were not saved?"

"I cannot log in Customer Center."

As for the browser problem, I have had no problems with IE7 (rc1) at any other site .....

Alright! Much better. That gives me the normal screen. Thank you. biggrin.gif

Edit: Oh oh. It was normal until I previewed and after I posted. It flipped me back to the new layout.

Yes, I know not all are there. It's a workaround until the FAQ pages are fixed and they have a link to this forum topic to monitor so they already know about it thanks to your initial post smile.gif

Hmmm, I don't get that at all here. If I use http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/ I get the full screen view. Only if I access through http://www.lavasoft.com/support/supportforums/ <--different URL, do I get the "shrinked" version

Hi Janie,

Am trying to help several AAW users to register their products, which have been bought at a Retail Store, not through element5.

LS SteveJ's FAQ on the subject here: How Do I Upgrade My Ad-aware To The Latest Version? gives them the same link as their Product CDs do : www.lavasoftsupport.com/support/customerregistration.php

That particular link, when used both here in the Support Forum, aswell as at the new website, just leads straight to the Support Center log-in page, which is not much use to Retail Purchasers.

Please could you add that particular glitch to the list for the engineers to fix.

Spike

New website is horrible.

Performance is beyond unusable. I'm looking at 30 sec page refresh's minimum
Forums can't remember I'm logged on from one screen to the next
Horizontal and vertical scrollbars are missing in Firefox
Horizontal scrollbar is missing in IE6
I'm completing whole replies only to have the board randomly report I'm not authorized to either reply or create new threads
Almost any page connected to any download times out

Hi Janie,

Ad-Aware comes pre-loaded with 4 skin choices. Use the Cofiguration Cog (top-right):

Click on the "Interface" tab on the left, and in the Interface Settings window, use the drop-down menu to access the 4 default skins (I use Yellow Sky):

However, in the old website was a link to the "Skins" site, containing many extra, user-made skins and a tool to enable the building of one's own skin.

The address was: http://www.adawareskins.com/ - at one stage, I had downloaded quite a few, expecially those created by LadyLibra and mayhem, which I have now found that I deleted somewhere along the way (very un-like me - I'm a hoarder unsure.gif )

The above link just takes one back to the default "Skins" page on the new website, with only the original 4 to choose from.

Perhaps you could mention this glitch to the engineers too - I have a poster looking for them.

Spike

Thanks Mimsey.

To Register an Ad-Aware product purchased through a retail outlet (ie: Not on-line)

Follow the link on your Retail Purchase CD - http://www.lavasoft.de/support/customerregistration.php

This will take you to this page:

Complete and submit, and you will be registered.

Thank you for your patience - our apologies for the inconvenience caused smile.gif

Sandy and Spike,

Re: Skins

I am told that until the new version is released, there will only be the 4 official skins offered.

Thanks Calamity.....any idea when the "new version" will be released? I just renewed my subscription yesterday. Will I have to pay again? unsure.gif Thanks smile.gif
LS CalamityJane
Hi Sandy,

No, you won't have to pay again. Your yearly subscription entitles you to free updates and free upgrades smile.gif

They haven't announced a target date - sometime next year for the new version. As with most software development, it is probably safe to say "It will be released when it's ready: biggrin.gif

Hello !!!!

Pleeeeeaaaaaseeee

Hi King_Alexius,

As I answered somewhere else - RegHance is no longer offered nor supported by Lavasoft.
It was at one time an add-on available to Plus and Pro users for additional cost but it is no longer being offered.
Input
I love the simple design of the lavasoft site. Good job! smile.gif

The website development team will be happy to see that as that was one of the goals

Admin Note by CalamityJane: This post was merged into the existing website feedback topic.
As the title of the post is lost in the merge, it was originally titled:
A distressing sentence in website's Education Center
misleading sentence structure implies unintended meaning -- I hope

Website feedback:

Seemingly unimportant text differences
can profoundly affect the meaning and impact of statements.

(For example,
English parsing traditions generally relate subordinate phrases to nearby terms,
unless the association is overridden by punctuation with parenthetical effects. )

I noticed the following sentence in your Spyware Education Center:

"Find out more about the software that infects 9 out of 10 computers here in Lavasoft’s Spyware Education Center."

Note how this affects the implication of the phrase
"here in Lavasoft's Spyware Education Center."

The nearest applicable term before "here in..." is "computers".

Thus, the above English sentence is likely to be parsed and interpreted by the reader as a directive to investigate software that infects 90% of the computers in Lavasoft's Spyware Education Center.

That is a turn-off !!

Readers would be more likely to be afraid of contagion
than curious about the appearance of Lavasoft's infected computers.

But check this out:

Moving the "here in..." phrase to the beginning of the sentence,
set off parenthetically by a comma,
gives it a completely different effect:

"Here in Lavasoft's Spyware Education Center, find out more about the software that infects 9 out of 10 computers."

In English, this sentence unambiguously associates "Here in..." with the verb "find".

The result is the sensible invitation to use Lavasoft's resources, i.e.
"find here [in Lavasoft ...] more about the software that infects ... computers",

instead of a distressing directive to observe Lavasoft's disastrous plight, i.e.
"find more about the software that infects ... computers here [in Lavasoft ....]"

LS Michael
warminghands02 -

Thanks for the great feedback...and the particularly detailed information. We'll make sure to get right on this to ensure there are no misunderstandings about our intentions in the Spyware Education Center!

Cheers!

There is a Topic posted just next to this large thread - has a direct impact on the new Website: Issue With Using Ad Blockers, Home Page May Not Display Correctly With Ad Blockers Enabled

To quote Ad Astra in his response:
QUOTE
Yes, I can see how this is happening. In Norton Personal Firewall (NPF) it blocks Ads based on certain rules and if you look in the logs you can see what is being blocked and why. One rule that will unfortunately affect Ad-Aware is

QUOTE
(Reason: "/ad-")
As NPF blocks web pages containing /ad- that will impact Lavasoft's website quite a lot as it will match Ad-Aware :-(

I guess they would have to rename a lot of pages to get round this.
I would hope the site designers manage to sort this out.

Look at all the confusion it caused in this Topic: http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?s...ic=4814&hl=

One possible solution to the users not being able to view links has been found by hammer63 - are there many other programs that include a similar feature?

Regards,

Spike
LS CalamityJane
Hello spike!

It appears that the Norton program is blocking anything with the word "ad" in it (as in Ad-Aware).

Whereas I don't see how we can change the name of the Ad-Aware product, either that is something that should be tweaked on Norton's end or those users who have it's ad-blocking enabled will need to remember that if a website doesn't view properly it could be the "ad blocker" in Norton products.

Not to do with the webpage, but with the forum rather: the quoted link, that topic, Lavasoft Homepage has a new look, isn't locked but it cannot be replied to. That's ok since it's @ Lavasoft News;

but elsewhere there are other topics/forums like Updates, with the topic there: Latest Ad-Aware Build which again isn't locked but it cannot be replied to. It's perhaps a little confusing when the Lavasoft - Announcements forum is so mixed with different user permissions.. maybe it would be better to manage that better..smile.gif

Btw., Customer Support Center is also stuck there among announcements, kind of strange?..
spike-nz
Hi nimd4,

The Topics that you have listed are all for informational purposes only - not for general debate (that is provided for in the other forum sub-sections). Hence the lack of "Reply" or "New Topic" functions.

Quite a few people use the Definition File Update section, for example, to check that they have the latest Definitions, especially after the recent, extensive up-dating problems. Adding replies and/or new topics would just make finding the info harder.

I am actually subscribed to that particular section (click on "Options" at the right-hand end of the title bar, then "Subscribe to this forum"). That way, I receive an email whenever a new definition file is released.

BTW - the Customer Support link that you mention is there to remind licensed users (Plus/Pro) that it exists for direct support, as opposed to the voluntary, user-community support on the forum. It also lists the languages that paid support is available in:
QUOTE
The Lavasoft Customer Care Center is available in the following langauages
English
Deutsch
Portugues
Espanol
Italiano
Francais
Japanese

Seems sensible to to me, to list this information in the "Announcements" section.

Big suggestion ! They should offer live support as the new Version is so screwed up I have to uninstall it to keep my PC from freezing up or lagging. I do not need a BETA version which I suspect that this is.

I would like my money back ASAP and would like Lavasoft to sell me there old version of SE I had last year! That version was user friendly and worked great!
spike-nz
Hi jjr,

These Support Forums are provided for user-to-user interaction and are not always monitored by the Support Staff as they are usually busy assisting paid users in the Support Center for one-on-one assistance.

As a licensed purchaser, you may contact the Support Center for support from them. Use the username and password provided in the email you should have received at the time of purchase to login to the Support Center here: http://www.lavasoft.com/support/supportcenter/

Your license that was provided with your purchase specifies that you are entitled to a refund within 14 days of purchase if you wish to request one - again that would need to be addressed through the Support Center (please bear in mind that there may be a delay in getting a response, as they currently have a back-log of support requests).

Should you wish to uninstall AAW 2007 and revert back to AAW SE 1.06 for the time being (Definitions will still be available for SE for a while longer yet, although the exact cutoff date for SE has not been determined), you may log in to the Support Center, navigate to Product Downloads and re-download your version of AAW SE (either Plus or Pro), providing that your License is still valid (click on this image to view the download section):

Anyone with a current license may upgrade to AAW 2007 through the Support Center from 18th June - there is no need to purchase it seperately, simply make sure that your License has not expired (if it has, it may be renewed inexpensivley). In addition, the Vista-compatible versions will be freely available to current license-holders as they are released (sometime in August for 32 bit and 4th quarter 2007 for 64-bit).

Until June 18th, the licensed versions of Ad-Aware SE (Plus/Pro) may still be downloaded through the Support Center.

Regards,

Spike
