I am trying to run Ad-Adware on my infected W98 pc and can't get it to finish (Same issue with Spyware Doctor, by the way). I found the 8/26/06 posting by Ad Astra about ways to get around the problem:

VundoFix came up clean

Lavasoft VX2 came up clean

I was able to get as far as completeing the + pronuke + immortal scan by canceling multiple recurrances of GCK25, Truce07, Duce6 and ms04656804562 as they came up, but then the system froze and I could go no futher.

I ended up restarting and the nect attempt froze even sooner.

I am about to try running the + pronuke + immortal in Safe Mode.

Any better ideas?

Oh dear! From the file names you mentioned that is a very nasty bundle of malware, so numerous infections.

Thanks for getting back to me.

I was able to clean up most of it with a combo of ad-adware, spybot and spyware doctor run first in safe mode and then in normal mode. But none of them was able to get rid of the problem permanently. The ultimte, apparently permanent fix came from MacAfee Antivirus.

I think everythingis under control. Thanks again.
