Full Version: Ad-Aware SE Won't Always Start

Billy Canuck
I have been reading the threads on Ad-Aware freezing during a scan, but can't find a reference to my problem. So, I'll put it in as a new entry in hopes that someone has seen it and has a fix.
Fot the last few years, I have used Ad-Aware with great results. However, in the last few months, when I try to open Ad-Aware, about half the time it just doesn't open. When I check Task Manager, it's listed in the "Processes" list, but nothing happens. The rest of the time, it opens and works perfectly.
When it doesn't open, and I try to end the program in Task Manager, it will shut down only about half the time. The rest of the time, I have to reboot, and try again (with approx a 50% chance of it working that time).
When it comes up, it will update and scan normally, but it's becoming more and more of a problem to get it to open.
I have tried shutting down any other programs (AVG etc) in case of a conflict, but no luck. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Ad-Aware several times, with no improvement.
Has anyone seen this problem, and is there a fix?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Bill.

There must be someone out there that has an answer to my problem.
I have tried running chkdsk, as indicated in another thread, byt no luck.
I don't think it's spyware related because Ad-Aware works fine about half the time.
It could be some sort of conflict with my mobo. I'm using a 3.0ghz P4 processor on an Intel D865PERL mobo. Does anyone out there have that combibation? Does Ad-Aware work for you?
I have a problem with Spybot since I upgraded my board, where it won't work with Hyperthreading active. Spybot gave me the work-around for that one.
I contacted Intel, but they aren't aware of any conflict between Ad-Awere and my board.
If anyone out there has an answer to this problem, I would really appreciate hearing from you.
Thanks.
Bill.

Well, I guess no one knows the answer. sad.gif I'll just have to live with it until Windows Defender puts an Adware program in their issue. Who knows how long that will take.

Did you find a fix? I just installed Ad-Aware SE Plus and cannot get it to run...receive a windows error message.
spike-nz
What was the exact wording of the error-message?

That would help us pin-point the problem.

I don't get an error message at all. The APP just doesn't open. I get the hourglass figure on my cursor for a couple of seconds, indicating that Windows is trying to open Ad Aware, but then, nothing.
I haven't found a fix so far, but it has worked OK the last couple of times I used it. Too early to say if it will keep that up or not.
Hope you can find a solution to your problem.

Sorry to hear you are having the same problem. My Ad-Aware just did it again today.
No one has answered this post with a solution, so I think we're not going to find one.
If I do manage to hear of anything, I'll post it back here for you.
Good Luck.
Bill.
