This problem is caused by the fact that no outside program is able to delete the items in your System Restore folder; manually clear your System Restore folder.

To manually empty the System Restore folder (If you are using Windows Me):
  • Close all open programs.
  • Right-click “My Computerâ€? on the Windows desktop, and then click “Propertiesâ€?.
  • Click the “Performanceâ€? tab.
  • Click “File Systemâ€?.
  • Click the “Troubleshootingâ€? tab.
  • Check “Disable System Restoreâ€?, click “OKâ€?, and then click “Closeâ€?.
  • Click “Yesâ€? to restart. This disables the “System Restoreâ€? feature and will purge the contents of the “_RESTOREâ€? folder when the system is restarted.
  • After cleaning the infected files, repeat steps 1 through 7, except in step 6, uncheck “Disable System Restoreâ€?.

    After the above steps are complete, create a new restore point:
  • Click “Startâ€?, point to “Programsâ€?, point to “Accessoriesâ€?, point to “System Toolsâ€?, and then click “System Restoreâ€?.
  • Click “Create a restore pointâ€?, and then click “Nextâ€?.
  • Enter the description of your Restore Point and then click “Nextâ€? to confirm the creation.
  • Click â€?OKâ€? or â€?Homeâ€?.

    If you are using Windows XP:
  • Click “Startâ€?, and then right-click “My Computerâ€?.
  • Click “Propertiesâ€?.
  • Click the “System Restoreâ€? tab.
  • Check “Turn off System Restoreâ€?.
  • Click “Applyâ€?, and then click “OKâ€?.
  • Restart the computer.
  • Repeat steps 1 through 6, except in step 4, uncheck “Turn Off System Restoreâ€?.

    After the above steps are complete, create a new restore point:
  • Go to “Startâ€?, then to “All Programsâ€?, then to “Accessoriesâ€?, then to “System Toolsâ€?, then to “System Restoreâ€?.
  • On the page that is brought up, you have three choices. Choose “Create Restore Pointâ€? and click “Nextâ€?.
  • Click “Create", then “Closeâ€?. A new restore point has been created.
