To manually empty the System Restore folder (If you are using Windows Me):
- Close all open programs.
- Right-click “My Computer� on the Windows desktop, and then click “Properties�.
- Click the “Performance� tab.
- Click “File System�.
- Click the “Troubleshooting� tab.
- Check “Disable System Restore�, click “OK�, and then click “Close�.
- Click “Yes� to restart. This disables the “System Restore� feature and will purge the contents of the “_RESTORE� folder when the system is restarted.
- After cleaning the infected files, repeat steps 1 through 7, except in step 6, uncheck “Disable System Restore�.
After the above steps are complete, create a new restore point: - Click “Start�, point to “Programs�, point to “Accessories�, point to “System Tools�, and then click “System Restore�.
- Click “Create a restore point�, and then click “Next�.
- Enter the description of your Restore Point and then click “Next� to confirm the creation.
- Click �OK� or �Home�.
If you are using Windows XP: - Click “Start�, and then right-click “My Computer�.
- Click “Properties�.
- Click the “System Restore� tab.
- Check “Turn off System Restore�.
- Click “Apply�, and then click “OK�.
- Restart the computer.
- Repeat steps 1 through 6, except in step 4, uncheck “Turn Off System Restore�.
After the above steps are complete, create a new restore point: - Go to “Start�, then to “All Programs�, then to “Accessories�, then to “System Tools�, then to “System Restore�.
- On the page that is brought up, you have three choices. Choose “Create Restore Point� and click “Next�.
- Click “Create", then “Close�. A new restore point has been created.
