Full Version: Proxy Settings and Proxy Authentication

I am using squid on a linux box to act as a proxy firewall. I am requiring authentication through this proxy and have never been able to get Ad-Aware 1.06 SE Personal to work over it.

The configuration for the connection allows me to enter the proxy server and the port number, but not authentication information. This requires me to manually download the updates.

The answer (before it is asked) is: no, I will not drop the authentication requirement for my proxy server. I will not have any special cases.

I don't want any information leakage in the slack time between when a new malware is created and the time it is finally detected and able to be removed.

Is there a way to enable proxy authentication through an undocumented configuration setting? If not, when will the proxy authentication be available?

Thanks.

It is interesting that this post has been viewed hundreds of times, but there is no reply.

I have waited (hopefully patiently) for nearly five months for an answer. Is there none?

Is there no proxy authentication configuration via an undocumented feature?

Is proxy authentication not going to make it into this product at all?

Thanks.

I am going to try again to get any kind of response.

When will proxy authentication become part of this product?

If you also have this question you might want to use Spy Bot Search and Destroy ( http://www.spybot.info/ ). It incorporates proxy authentication in its free version of the product.

I use it more frequently than ad-aware because it can automatically download the new definitions through my proxy (which requires authentication).

I am ready to uninstall Ad-Aware and use Spy-Bot S&D exclusively.

Perhaps you should sign up for the ad-aware 2007 beta and make that feature request. (you wouldn't have to install the beta if you didn't want to)
