Thanks for response, Die Hard.

I read the response from Corrine and wish to confirm that I never have anything manually added to my computer Hosts file.
I then followed the instuctions as recommended by Corrine and launched CCLeaner (unchecked 'only delete files in windows temp folder older than 48 hrs'). I also downloaded and launched OK HostFileReader, ==>'Reset Default' ==>Exit.
I the restarted in safe mode, clean boot and the consequent scan with Ad-Aware revealed unfortunately the same result.

Would you please have another suggestion as how to rectify this situation?

That vulnerability is no major threat.

To rid you of this alert, either put it in your ignore list in AAW or run this script below:

Add the text in the box to a notepad sheet and click "File>save as" and name it to "fixfile.reg" and make sure to save it as "All Files". Save it to your desktop. Then doubleclick on the file (the icon looks like a bunch of blue cubes) and you´ll be prompted if you want to merge it to the registry, click "yes" and another window will open telling you it was sussesfully added to the registry.

CODE
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\regfile\shell\open\command]
@="regedit.exe \"%1\""

Die Hard:
Sorry for bothering you again but it seems that I am unable to add fixfile.reg to the registry. When clicking Yes a Registry Editor Warning Sign pops up indicating "Cannot import and: Error opening the file. There may be a disk or file system error".
Any ideas what to do?

Did you bring all text in the code-box to the file you created ?

Please download the file below (registryfile.bat) and add it to your desktop.
Doubleclick upon it and a .txt-file is created, also on the desktop, called regfile.txt
Copy and paste the content in that file into your next reply .

Ok, this is the way it is:

Upload failed. You are not permitted to upload a file with that file extension.

Let´s do it this way:
Upload the file registryfile.txt and add it to your desktop. Right-click on it and choose "change name" and rename it to registryfile.bat, a warning will com up saying "changing filename will, bla bla",click yes.
Then doubleclick upon it and do like I stated above smile.gif

EDIT: You have to right click the file and choose "Save as" in order to dl it.

My computer literacy is poor and I'm not sure understanding your kind response.
I managed to have now 3 icons on my desk-top viz. regfile.text, fixfile.reg and registryfile.bat
The info concerning regfile.text is as follows:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\regfile\shell\open\command]
@="regedit.exe %1"

When double clicking on to fixfil.reg a warning window pops up indicating: "Cannot import Setting\Pattaya\Desktop\Fixfile.reg:Error opening the file. There may be a disk or file sustem error".

When double clicking on to registryfile.bat a black window opens but shuts down very quickly and I am unable to read the contend displayed on the black window.

System Information:-
Platform: OS Microsoft Win32 XPPro Version 5.12600 SP2 Build 2600
Processor: x86 Family 15 Model 3 Stepping 4 GenuineIntel ~2400Mhz, Pentium4
MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.0.2900.2180, Total Physical Memory 512MB
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 with Hotfix (KB8866903), Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0: x86 (KB829019), XP Hotfixes and Security Updates are current, (automatically downloaded/installed).

I hope that the information provided is sufficient for you to come up with a solution.

You´re doing great smile.gif
When you double-clicked the "registryfile.bat" the file "regfile.txt" was created.

This was what I was looking for, in the "regfile.txt" :
QUOTE
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\regfile\shell\open\command]
@="regedit.exe %1"

Since you are so clever, I have another task for you LOL tongue.gif

Hang in here and I´ll be back

Please right-click on "regcommandfix.txt" and click "save target as" and save it to your desktop.
Rename it to "regcommandfix.reg" and doubleclick upon it and hopefully it will merge into the registry.
Please let me know if it doesn´t work, then we´ll have to do it another way.

G'day Die Hard,

Followed you proceedure but unfortunately the merge operation will not work - the same warning sign pops-up indicating "Cannot import C:\Documents: Error opening the file. There may be a disk or file error".

I´m not sure why this happens, I had the same issue when trying it out.
Please do this:
Click on (Windowskey+R) and type regedit>OK.
In the toolbar of the registry editor that opens, click "File>Import" and navigate to the "regcommandfix.txt" and when found, click on it and hit "Open".

Hi Die Hard,

Followed your instructions and the Registry Editor info Sign popped-up displaying the following comment: "Information in C:\Documents and Settings\Pattaya2005\Desktop\Regcommandfic.reg has been successfully entered into the registry."

Well, I guess you finally made it happen and thank you for all your effort and patience and hope that the next scan with Ad-Aware won't show the same result.

With best regards,
Die Hard
