Hi Mackaylinn,
This going to be a long post, so before I start, did you follow
all of the steps suggested in my earlier post?

when I run a scan if my anti virus pops up saying virus blocked or that I have a virus my scan stalls and I cannot clear whats been found.
What exactly does the warning message say? Does it provide you with options to choose?

the anti wirus program I am using is AVG 7.1
Are you using the free or paid-for version of AVG? What does their set-up/user manual instruct you to do when you get a warning like this?

see it just popped up and ruined my scan and I have to start over anybody know what I can do...?
If you leave it for a while, does Ad-Aware complete it's scan?
This an explanation from the Ad-Aware User Manual:

Virus warnings while performing a scan with Ad-Aware
While performing a scan with Ad-Aware, a background antivirus monitor may issue an alert, stating
that a virus has been found in the temporary directory (%temp%) for the current user. This does not
necessarily mean your computer has been infected with an active virus.
Most antivirus resident scanners will not scan compressed files and only monitor your memory for the
sign of an active viral process. During a scan, Ad-Aware will temporarily decompress files to scan their
contents without activating the content, but in doing so, the file is noticed by the antivirus' resident
scanner. Also, some antivirus applications include an option to quarantine infected files, and when Ad-
Aware decompresses these quarantined files, the antivirus background scanner detects the virus
moving outside the quarantine area. To avoid this you can either remove the quarantined files via your
antivirus application, or have Ad-Aware ignore the antivirus program's quarantine folders/files during a
scan .
This much the same as LS SteveJ's post in the
Lavasoft Support Forums > FAQ's > Ad-Aware SE > Technical section of the forum:
Why Does My Anti-virus Scanner Show Virus Alerts During An Ad-aware Scan?I found this post in the AVG Free Forum:
Ad-Aware False Virus Detection? There are 3 possible steps that I would suggest, based on the above:
- 1) "
remove the quarantined files via your antivirus application" - use the AVG control panel to locate and delete any existing quarantine files.
- 2) "
have Ad-Aware ignore the antivirus program's quarantine folders/files during a scan - find the default location of your AVG quarantine folder (EG: for Norton A/V, this C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\Quarantine). Open Ad-Aware, click "Scan Now", select "Use Custom Scanning Options" then click "Customize". In the "Scan Settings" pop-up, click on "Select drives & folders to Scan" - in the drop-down box that appears, navigate to the location of the AVG quarantine folder and un-tick (un-check) that particular file. This will stop Ad-Aware from scanning/reading that folder.
- 2) Go to the
AVG Free Advisor Page, click on "AVG Free Forum", then "Information And Alerts - General information and alerts" and start a new topic, asking for assistance as to how to configure AVG to stop this particular problem. Please note
PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING - AVG Forum How to Ask for HelpI have tried to set out options as clearly as possible
