Full Version: Why, is the new Ad Aware 2010 almost 74MB in size

Why, is the new Ad Aware 2010 almost 74MB in size ? ? ? ?
This is getting very bloated. For example, I only need it to do the
basic protection services. I already have a good anti virus installed.

Can the developers explain this bloat ? ?
Is there a way to just install what we need ? ? ?
This thing went from 34MB last year (big) to 74MB this year (doubled)

The increased size is because they now bundle Google Chrome, but it's an optional install. Ad-Aware might be the wrong product for you if all you need is "basic protection services" (whatever that is). Pro and Plus are now called "Internet Security" as they target users who wish to have a single suite application which includes anti-virus. Even if you use the free version, the installer is the same - the license just activates the extra features. The only option is not installing the Ad-Watch real-time component. If you want something akin to the old Ad-Aware SE, maybe SpywareBlaster or Spybot is a better choice.

I do run Spybot SD and also Spyware Blaster, as well as Avira for the antivirus. And in my browsers, Google toolbar with it's pop up
blocker and AdBlock Plus in Firefox .. For now I do not need the Chrome browser. Quite satisfied with Firefox on 99% of all websites.
