I know already about the topic with the news, "Update: scans stall at enumerating clsid's", but.. when you have intention to resolve the problem?!
I have installed the new Ad-Aware 8.1 already from a month, and the update to the version 8.1.1, but I haven't never been able to make a complete scan! If the problem doesn't come soon resolved, I will have to change the program!
I exhort you to resolve the problem very soon.. as there are many customers with my same problem, and we will have to change the program, if it doesn't work correctly!

I wish I had an answer for you, but we have heard absolutely nothing from Lavasoft either.

I think I will try and contact some Lavasoft staff personally now.

I too am having the same problem. I installed the new 8.1 version last night and left it scaaning over night. It spent 5+ hours at the same point "enumerating clsid's" at about 77000+ file (where I left it last night. I went aahead and shut it down in the moirning and restarted the program and the PC with the same result hanging at the same around 77000+ files.

What is the problem? I'm running windows XP with Comodo firewall and avast! AV. I've checked their logs and they're not blocking anything related to Ad-Aware.

It's a bug. We'll update this thread with any info we receive from Lavasoft:

Hi,

I too have recently installed the new version 8.1.1 and am experiencing the same problem. I start a scan and and it never finishes! The previous version never had this problem.

I am running Windows Vista.

I would really appreciate if you can find a solution to this problem.

Thank you

you can add me to the list of complainants, not looking too promising is it.....! biggrin.gif

As you can see, there are many persons with this problem, and we will be all forced to change software anti-spyware, if Lavasoft will not resolve this problem very soon!
The days pass and the scannings still cannot be made.. COME ON! smile.gif

I received an email fro Lavasoft recently and I believe there is a bug fix on its way soon, hopefully, it might be able to solve this - so stay tuned.

If you read the thread visitor links to you'll see he's updated it to say that Lavasoft are/have been working with users to recover information about this problem - which, of course, is the best way to try and solve it.

The 8.1.2 changelog doesn't mention fixing this problem, or I'd have updated this thread. If you'd like to scan the rest of your system, you should be able to complete a Profile Scan without checking Critical Areas.
jabura
Still attend...
Sigh...

Sorry Visitor,I should have checked that.
I have done as you said & have run a profile scan & it completed fine.
Also when it does get stuck on the CLSIDS I can now use the stop scan button & it works.

Thanks for the feedback - Hooray for small victories! Although it would be nice if scanning an area deemed "critical" worked, eh? Hopefully a fix is just around the corner.
jabura
"A fix is just around the corner".. mah.. another week is past.. we attend..
P.S.: a scan without "Critical areas scan" is not a complete scan.. it is practically useless..
jabura
i'm reading that the problem is fix whit a new update.. but.. what update?

Update the software through the Ad-Aware GUI, tray icon, or start menu.
jabura

Glad it's now working jabura.

Since the issue appears to be resolved, I will close this topic.
