This is posted in response to Casey's request on the other forum.

Just to keep this topic going, here's a progress report. I could not just leave this PC out of service while waiting for help, so I continued to work on trying to identify and fix the problem(s). I asked a friend for advice and during the conversation he asked if this was a dual boot pc with another OS installed. I replied that it was not, but a light bulb popped on, as it IS dual boot with a minimal second install of XP. I booted to the other instance and started exploring and playing.

1. I installed XP SP3 and all patches to the second instance.
2. Installed AdAware 8.1, and it ran! Updated with all new definitions and ran it on the problem partition. No problems found.
3. Started exploring and found that the eventlog.dll was missing on the problem partition. Copied one in from the good partition and rebooted. I could then see the three event logs! Diskeeper now runs! AdAware however, still does not.
4. I noticed that after uninstalling AdAware that Spybot says that it's still there...? Found and deleted several orphan entries for Lavasoft. Rebooted and re-installed AdAware. Rebooted again, AA service still errors out and AdAware will not run. Also, the AdAware service will not start manualy ( startup type is set to auto ).

Somewhere in here I also noticed that SVCHOST was redlining the cpu utilisation and slowing the pc down. I tracked this back to the Terminal Services service. As I do not use TS, I disabled it and the cpu utilisation dropped back to normal. Even though all tools that I've tried report that I don't have a malware issue, I suspect that there is still something "bad" going on. And, AdAware still does not run.

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Just to keep this topic going, here's another progress report.

Add/Remove Windows Components is not running, it gives an insufficient memory error and follows up with a "the application could not be initialized" error. AdAware at startup and run manualy are not running. MalWareBytes, and Spybot both run scans and say clean. Symantec is running, but cannot start a manual scan.

Since 11/11 I have removed support for the wireless card as that seemed to be eating up memory ( It was not in use at my home, no other networks signals present. ) I have also noticed that there seems to be something related to the Com+ installation going on. Numerous stops and attempted restarts in the Security events log.

Please let me know when to post an updated Hijackthis log as I'm sure that the posted one is not 100% accurate as to what is going on now.

Once again, any assistance will be much appricated.
