I have tried and failed many times. The installer deletes my previous version of Ad-Aware, as well. I keep receiving this error and cannot find the problem. I have Googled this problem and it seems I am not the only one. Although, every solution listed, has not worked.

I've tried the solutions listed here to no avail. http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=23891

Please help as I have no idea what to do. I have tried literally everything and I know I cannot be the only one with this problem. Thanks.

I'm running Windows Vista and I am trying to install the free version of Ad-Aware. As mentioned I have tried every solution I could find. Please Lavasoft fix this glitch. Thanks.

If you updated Windows Installer, performed a customized installation without Ad-Watch, then manually installed the Ad-Watch driver afterwards - and it didn't work - perhaps you should try a clean install.

Installing on top of old versions doesn't work well since the uninstaller does a poor job. At this thread you'll find links to Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and Revo Uninstaller which will help you do a clean uninstall of all Lavasoft/Ad-Aware junk on your PC.

Then download a fresh copy of the installer from http://lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php and save it to your hard drive. When you install, it's best to stop all applications/processes to avoid any conflicts.

If a clean install doesn't work, there's a possibility you're infected with something which prevents Ad-Aware from properly installing. In that case, read the instructions in my signature:

1. post a log in the HijackThis forum. Copy/paste or link to this thread to describe the problem, and somebody there can help you with malware removal.

2. submit malware to Lavasoft for analysis - this will help in future definitions and software updates smile.gif

If you updated Windows Installer

Each Vista download says that it is not for my system. I guess I'm already updated?

performed a customized installation without Ad-Watch, then manually installed the Ad-Watch driver afterwards

I performed the customized installation without Ad-Watch but the installation did not finish so I did not install the driver afterwards

The Windows uninstaller does not work I get this error-type message:
I instead turned to Revo and deleted what it found, retried the install, and it still did not work.

Then download a fresh copy of the installer from http://lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php and save it to your hard drive. When you install, it's best to stop all applications/processes to avoid any conflicts.

Didn't help at all.

I followed the instructions but ERUNT is for XP, not Vista. Is there a similar program I can use?

And by the way... Thanks a bunch for trying to help! smile.gif

"Permission Denied - MS VBScript runtime error"

http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/170/...dows-Vista.html

Apparently the solution is to turn off User Acct Control (UAC) before installing WICU, or run the installer as Administrator.

ERUNT - the same solution

http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/faq.htm

Question: Do ERUNT and NTREGOPT run on Windows Vista?

Answer: Yes. To make sure the programs are executed with proper administrative privileges, you should however turn off User Account Control in Vista’s system settings.

Edit: now that you've posted in HJT, I'll close this thread. If you need it reopened, PM any moderator.
