I cannot run AD-AWARE or update as I get a fail to connect error message or errorcode: -1

Hi,

You posted in a thread relating to an older version of Ad-Aware, so I have split it from that thread and created your own.

I recommend you read and try the following: http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=27351

I followed all of the above advice and still get a failed connection. When I reinstall I don't get an Ad-Aware Service and can't install one. I do notice an issue with my ESET NOD antivirus program when I am reinstalling Ad-Aware. I get a message stating that the following URL address is blocked: "new-search-zone.com/borders.php" .
This appears to prevent the Ad-Aware program from being completely installed. Should I deactivate the antivirus program while I install Ad-Aware?

It is recommended to disable anti-virus programs when installing legit programs. However, I don't think that "new-search-zone.com/borders.php" would have anything to do with Ad-Aware.

Is it possible you have a malware infection? Could you make sure you update your anti-virus and run a scan and see if anything is detected?

If you Google "new-search-zone.com/borders.php" there are a couple security site entries:

The data identified by the following URLs was then requested from the remote web server . . . hxxp://new-search-zone.com/borders.php

I ran a detailed scan and found 1 infection: 'Documents and settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp\a.exe-Win32/Trojan Downloader.Fake Alert. ANJ trojan'. It was cleaned by deleting - quarantined (1)

I disabled my antivirus and tried to install Ad-Aware. I still get the failed connection.

Try to create the service by using the alternate syntax in this post:

If visitor's suggestion doesn't work, I would recommend reading the instructions in my signature and posting a HJT log in the HJT forum since it seems likely that there may still be hidden malware preventing Ad-Aware from installing.

The visitors suggestion didn't work and I now have another problem. When I try to run programs such as Hijack This or SuperAntiSpyware I get the following Message: 'Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access file item.' I need to correct this in order to run a HJT log.

Ok just start a new topic in the HJT forum. Outlining the fact that you cannot run HJT and Ad-Aware will not install. Also link to this topic. Someone should be able to help you get up and running.
