Have win XP s/p3 been useing AdAware for years but have notice after core file update download/copy/paste
the main scan screen still tells me to update and has a very old core file number 0146.0000. The file I downloaded
28/10/09 yesterday should have been 0149.0078. How do I verify I have updated to this core file.

Go to: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware\Defs and see what the version is

After the manual definition update, did you exit/restart Ad-Aware? It needs to be restarted to load the new definitions. Don't worry about the "Last update" date, that refers to the use of the "Web update" button which updates both the software and definitions. Mine still reflects the date of installation and says to update, but the definition number is correct as long as I restart Ad-Aware to load the new definition file.
