I have just downloaded an update that includes something called "Simple Mode". According to the help file, "Simple Mode is designed to make using the program as easy as possible, allowing you to “set and forget” by using our expert recommended settings." But I cannot see anywhere to schedule scans. Are scans carried out at preset times in Simple Mode, or do I have to remember to click on the "Scan" button? (That wouldn't seem to fit with "set and forget)

Which version are you using? Scheduler is not included with Free, only Plus and Pro. It may be easier to think of "Simple Mode" as the factory default settings. "Advanced mode" allows you to tweak individual settings.

Just to confirm what visitor has said Scheduler only comes with the paid versions and, yes, it is only accessible through the Advanced Mode (main screen) in Ad-Aware 8.1 (not AE).

Thanks for that. I am using Adaware Plus, version 8.1.0. Before I downloaded the update yesterday, I had no choice of modes. What you say about factory default settings fits with what I thought, but what I cannot seem to discover is whether those default settings include an automatic regular scan, or does Simple Mode mean that I have to click the "Scan" button whenever I want a scan? If so I will work in Advanced Mode.

You can create a scheduled scan in Advanced Mode and then switch back to Simple Mode. Your scheduled scan will still run.
