I recently upgraded to the 2010 of the free product. I have tried running a Smart Scan three times. Each time the scanning hangs. Each time the scanning stops after scanning between 4000 to 5000 files. It has been running over twenty minutes and is on the same file for most of that time.

The product isn't working. How can I fix this problem?

Thanks....

Could you please provide the following information:

  • If you have any Norton products installed

Thanks

I've been having the same problem. It's like the program locks up when it gets to a certain file and then I can't open Ad Aware without completely closing the program and then the spyware that has been detected is released. I am Using Windows XP, have no Norton products on my computer, and had no problems with the Anniversary Edition. How can I get this fixed so the spyware will not slow down my computer anymore?

Hi, I'm having the same problem, which was discussed in a previous forum about 3-5 days ago. For instance, I had tried to update to the new 8.1 version from Anniversary Ed, from a pop-up when I was opening AdAware. So I did all that & ended up with a new version that was flawed as others noted in the forum………………..
“Ad-Aware 8.1.0 "Update" pop-up window PROBLEM RESOLVED!!!First, I would like to thank louie2 for his contributions and postings #27 and #29 and #30. Following louie2's lead, I elected to remove all traces of Ad-Aware from my computer….”

Therefore, I uninstalled with Revo, & deleted any other traces (like empty folders) I could find. FWIW, Revo uses the Adaware uninstaller 1st, then mops up; but there are often app folders or other places that Revo doesn’t find.

Someone else said they had the same problem last time, & they also said “it was resolved.” So I reinstalled a fresh program 10/20 in the AM. But much to my dismay, here’s where it froze (I waited 2 hours just in case it really was deep scanning!) ADAWARE STOPPED @ SCANNING 10453 OBJECTS. Current OBJECT: enumerating clsid’s Scan time (full) 02:35 Current selection: Critical Areas
Tried to stop scan button but it wouldn’t—only by the red X, but then the same problem as with the ist update installation: looked at Task Manager & it was still running @ 50% CPU, AAWservices…(I think that’s how it looked).

Anyway, tried again 10/20 in the PM using only quick scan, but Adware STOPPED SCANNING @ 10819 OBJECTS (a little further). Again, the Current OBJECT: enumerating clsid’s Again, tried to stop scan button but wouldn’t, only by red X, & then same problem: still running @ 50% CPU!

BTW I’ve had AdAware on the only 2 computers I’ve owned = about 5 years. So any help appreciated. Al

Scan freezes at enumerating clsids is a known problem and Lavasoft are working to fix it.

I have Windows Vista installed. I just upgraded to the free Ad-Ware 2010 (8.1.0). I am running Norton Internet Security (2009). All of these programs are up-to-date with fixes and definitions.

If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Thanks....

It is my understanding that the scan freezing is a recognized problem and has been sent to Lavasoft. I posted my problem about three weeks ago and I am still experiencing the scan freeze problem. I know I only have the free version but the problem is being experienced by others who have the fee version.

Doesn't Lavasoft care if their product works or not? If they can't fix this problem, why should I consider buying one of their fee products?

If you haven't already, you could try contacting Symantec/Norton - it seems they're dragging their feet on this problem as well.
