I've been trying to run Ad-Aware AE for most of the day. Every time I try to start it, it pauses for a minute, then comes up with a message saying Ad-Aware has unexpectedly had to shut down. I've tried shutting down the entire computer and restarting it, in case something on startup was the issue, but that doesn't help.
Anyone have any idea what this is and what to do about it?

Does it shutdown when trying to open the GUI or when trying to scan?
If you can open the GUI, go to settings and turn off auto-update - it may be AE is trying to update to the new 8.1 version.
If it doesn't start the GUI, I suspect your infected with malware preventing Ad-Aware from running, especially if other popular security software is affected. Read the instructions in my signature:
1. post a log in the HijackThis forum. Copy/paste or link to this thread to describe the problem, and somebody there can help you with malware removal.
2. submit malware to Lavasoft for analysis - this will help in future definitions and software updates
