After some automatic updates from windows my ad-aware now says

"[Window Title]
C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware\Ad-Aware.exe

[Content]
C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware\Ad-Aware.exe

The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail.

Hi,

What operating system and service pack are you using?

Here's a good topic I found explaining what this error actually means: http://forums.techarena.in/vista-help/975947.htm#post3764052

My guess would be to uninstall Ad-Aware and try installing Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86). Then reinstall Ad-Aware.

Windows Vista Home Premium service pack 2.

I tried the uninstall and installed the c++ but no luck.

This problem occurred just after windows upgraded to the service pack 2

I hate windows. Im getting a mack

this is what the event log says:
Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware\ShellExt.dll".Error in manifest or policy file "C:\Windows\WinSxS\manifests\x86_policy.9.0.microsoft.vc90.crt_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_9.0.30729.1_none_8550c6b
5d18a9128.manifest" on line 0. Invalid Xml syntax.

This sucks, i was about to upgrade to the pro version but now i guess not

Yeah that seems to be a problem. If you google your error you'll get a few hits about it.

What I'd suggest is to uninstall Ad-Aware using Revo on its highest setting. Then try and install the latest version of Ad-Aware here: http://download.cnet.com/Ad-Aware-Free/300...dl&tag=top5
