Hi All

I am currently running Ad Aware Anniversary Edition 8.0.8 and trying to update to the new version. I have downloaded the installer, but when I run it I get the following error message:

"Unable to uninstall old version of Ad-Aware. Please uninstall it yourself using Control Panel Add-Remove Programs before attempting to install this product.

The windows installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in sage mode, or if the windows installer is not correctly installed."

Now, I have tried to uninstall the old version as advised, and I have also tried to uninstall using the built in uninstaller, and I have rebooted each time. However, I still get the same error message and the old version is still showing in my program list.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Dan

edit:

I am running Windows XP, sevice pack 3 with all updates installed. Antivirus is Mcafee.

Hi,

So do you think the old version is uninstalled? Or does the uninstall fail?

If you think the old version is uninstalled then please try and use the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility and see if Ad-Aware is listed. If it is then please use the tool to delete it.

Then try and install the new version.

If you think it hasn't uninstalled, then please try and use Revo on its highest setting to uninstall Ad-Aware. Reboot and then install the new version

Update

Well, I got rid of the old version with Revo, but when I try to install the new version I still get an error message saying "the Windows Installer Service could not be accessed."

I think I am just going to give up, perform a system restore and carry on using h
the old version. sad.gif

Thaks for the help anyway Casey.

OK, well could you just check that the Windows Installer service is present?

Good news!! biggrin.gif

I persevered, and with the help of the Microsoft Support website managed to reinstall the Windows Installer, and have now sucessfully installed the new version of Ad Aware.

Thanks again for your help Casey.
