New to this forum, but not new to Lavasoft. Using Anniversary Edition 8.0.6 and it locks up after scanning about 2000 files. The last file that it locked up at was: C:\windows\system32\wbem\wmiprvse.exe. Found the file and checked it with an updated copy of Norton 2009 and nothing was found. Ran Spybot S&D twice and it found nothing. Have run Norton "FULL" scan twice and nothing was found. Using Windows VISTA Home Premium with a 3.3 gHz dual core cpu. Taskmaster shows that about 0-1% of processor is being used what a TAC value of 5.7. I don't think there is any malware or other aberrant software on the machine.

Have completely deleted AE twice and downloaded the new software twice, turned off the PC, then restarted AE and it still locks up after about 2000 scanned files.

Your issue is probably due to Norton itself rather than any malware.

Yup, turning off the ol' tamper protection did the job, Ad Aware is running right now. Not a good idea to leave that off, though, as there are several viruses out there that like to disable Norton's Anti-Virus and the anti-tamper switch prevents that (or tries, too).
