Until recently Ad-Aware worked flawlessly. About 2 weeks ago when I launched it, it would bring up the loading screen and just stop. The only way to get rid of the screen was through task manager. I have uninstalled Ad-Aware with your suggested Revo and reinstalled without luck. It still acts the same.

I would like to attach a screen shot but the upload file option doesn't seem to work for my word document.

Hi,

Same problem here.

I have the loading screen but nothing else happen.

I have to shut it down with task manager.

I have read thread about services.

I checked with services.msc : lavasoft is on automatic start but it has stopped.

If I try to restart the service, it stops again...

I use windows XP 32 bit, and AVG anti-virus.

I have no other known issue....

A malware is possible but not detected by AVG with resident shield activated and all security options activated...

Thanks for Help.

@E000001,

Do you have anything which could be blocking the Lavasoft Service from starting? Any security settings in AVG? If not, then feel free to read the instructions in my signature and post a HJT log in the HJT forum for analysis.

Hi,

Thanks for advice.

I don't think it is a problem with AVG, but finally it seems I got some kinds of infections. :-(

Norman malware cleaner has discovered some threats (Virtumonde, Suspicious_M.gen, AskBar.E and .D, Obfuscate.BQ!genr) !

I will try Spybot now...

I removed all threats and Skybot find no problem.

Ad-Aware still doesn't load... probably because of the Lavasoft service that stops for unknown reason huh.gif

I use both AVG and Ad-Aware. I only use Ad-Aware real-time and turn off AVG resident, but even with both active I did not encounter problems. Since you found infections, you should follow the instructions for posting in the HijackThis forum to ensure your system is clean.

Hi,

Thanks for advice.

Those threats don't seem really serious and were probably false positive.

I only fear for rootkits but Sofos Anti-rootkit reports too many hidden files to be usefull.

Rootkit revealer indicated only one suspect file. I deleted it.

Spybot report no malware.

No process listed by HijackThis seems suspicious.

Just one strange line:
Winlogon Notify: vtUkiGYo - vtUkiGYo.dll (file missing)

It was one of the supiscous file that I deleted... dry.gif

Thanks

The problem is here is that just because you managed to find one bad file it doesn't mean there aren't more. In fact, only finding one suspicious file is a good indicator there may be more hidden files. I would highly suggest that you do post a HJT for analysis by a trained malware remover.
