Full Version: AdWatch-Live! Reboot Message

I installed Ad-Aware AE recently and it keeps telling me in the system tray to reboot so it can finalize installation of AdWatch-Live! I've been giving it some time to see if it stopped doing after awhile but it still does. And it's got a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark over the Ad-Aware system tray icon. Why is it always telling me to reboot?

Try this:

Okay, I went to try that and it gives me a message that says the target files exist and is newer than the source and do I want to overwrite the newer file.
Before I click yes I wanted to check here first and see if I should. Yes or No?.......I just clicked no and and it's asking me to reboot.
LavaRiver
Okay, I tried both, first no don't overwrite the newer file and then yes. Neither resolved the problem. Now what? unsure.gif

Hi LavaRiver,

What licence do you have? The method visitor posted to normally resolves this issue - I don't think I've seen it not (until now).

If you have the time (and patience) could you try a reinstall?

I'm just using the free version of Ad-Aware AE which makes me wonder why if comes up with that AdWatch Live! message in the first place. Is this something that will be there for the next 30 days and then gone after that?

I had tried an unistall/install before I came here. I installed the version 8.0.7.0. Should I try it again?

Even the free version of Ad-Aware now includes an Ad-Watch component. You can try reinstalling, though if you have already done so it would seem pointless.

Do you have anything which might be preventing Ad-Watch from running? Perhaps another real-time protection program?

Else you could always disable Ad-Watch (although that obviously is not our best goal!).

I have McAfee Security center from At&t, ThreatFire, SpywareBlaster, As-Aware (of course), Malwarebytes, Spybot Search and Destroy, Windows Defender and Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool. Used to have SUPERAntiSpyware but uninstalled it after having some problems with it.

MS Malicious Software Removal Tool shouldn't have an effect - it's only a scan on-demand application and doesn't have real-time protection. Nor should SpywareBlaster - it merely blocks browser-based settings like ActiveX, cookies, and certain websites.

I also have Spybot and Windows Defender, but since both have real-time protection, I disabled both prior to installation of Ad-Aware. I also disabled AVG, but that's not on your list. I always disable any running processes when installing software, so you might want to try this if you haven't already.

I'll try that. Can you tell me the quickest way to disable those two since you have them?

Spybot
1. right-click tray icon to exit TeaTimer.
2. open Spybot and switch to Advanced Mode.
3. Click on Tools/Resident and uncheck both SDHelper and TeaTimer.

Windows Defender
1. Right-click tray icon to open Windows Defender.
2. Go to Tools/Options and unclick "Use real-time protection."

Well that didn't seem to work either. I turned them off and uninstalled and reinstalled and rebooted twice and I still get the message. Ad-Watch Live! does say realtime protection is off too by the way if that matters and I see no way of turning it on. Are you sure you get that with Ad-Aware Free AE?

I had a similier issue and this is how i fixed it

1. Uninstalled Ad-aware using Revo uninstaller ( link :Revo uninstaller ) using it's advanced option
- Cleans left over files and registry entries

2. Restarted Computer

3. Deleted the old ad-aware install

4. Redownloaded & installed

5. oh oops no step five it worked smile.gif ( yes I'm humorous person )

The is no link to a page where I can check out Revo uninstaller. It just wants to start a download. I'm very paranoid and suspicious of things like that. So I didn't download it.

Yes, the Free version includes Ad-Watch Processes protection. It should be on by default installation, which is the problem. After successful installation, you can turn Ad-Watch on/off under Settings/Ad-Watch/Processes Protection.

Try the Revo Uninstaller, it is a safe program and has a track record of success here with cleaning up old installations before installing Ad-Aware AE.

Well, I don't know what the problem is. I tried all the suggestions. I disabled all my security software including McAffee, and Threatfire, used Revo Uninstaller, downloaded a new installer of AdAware and rebooted twice and I still get the same message....by the way even though it says Ad-Watch Live! is off it does show that processes protection is checked. I don't know, maybe the newest installer is messed up or I didn't do something right when checking on the bold registry files in Revo Uninstaller. I only clicked the bold items and nothing else....uhmmm, I also have Norton SystemWorks but, I doubt that has anything to do with it. It's just maintenance stuff. It's a conundrum. I wish there was some kind of log I could upload and then some could read it and see what the problem is right off.

Also, I noticed that sometimes the system tray icon no longer has a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark but that it's gone. Not sure when, I'll have to try and pay attention as to when. I do know that it doesn't when scanning.

.....hmmm, it seems that the triangle disappears when you do a scan of sorts. I just tried doing a quick scan and stopped it after a few seconds and the triangle on the system tray is gone, but, if I open up the GUI I see that Ad-Watch Live! still says it's off and if I shutdown and restart AdAware the message comes back.

Well, there have been problems with Norton lately, but that was due to its anti-tamper function shutting down Ad-Aware Scans. You might want to check if Norton System Works has any such protection in the settings. Also, since the 1st fix we recommended deals with installation of the Ad-Watch driver, maybe there's something in Norton which is active and not just an on-demand application. If nothing else, you can just use Ad-Aware for on-demand scans and just use the real-time protection of one of your other programs. It would be nice to figure out why the usual fix doesn't work this time!
