My desk computer is infected with this malware which begins as though the computer is infected and a new scan is being executed. When the "scan" is completed the program comes back and asks for payment etc to "fix" the problems. When I realized the problem was a virus and a scam it was too late.
The virus issued various warning messages for sometime before various real anti virus scans eleminated them. The computer was scanned with AdAware definition files updated and installed on Monday, Sept 14, 2009.
The problem that continues is that the browser is corrupted such that any login requiring a password simply does not work. Since I have 2 computers this one I am using is not infected and the same passwords do work on this computer. In addition I know that the passwords do work on the infected computer when the computer is in the safe mode with network access.
The infected computer seems to be running exceptionally slow even though it has the maximum amount of RAM installed in it for XP-PRO OS which is 3GB.
Various scans were done both in the safe mode and in the normal mode. I also tried to move to an earlier time before the occurence and this did not work.
