I have 7 and 8 on my vista home premium 32 bit, i just downloaded adaware ann edition to my desk top, what do i need to do to install it?
thanks

I guess you mean Ad-Aware 2007 and 2008?

I would uninstall these first before installing AE. There are sometimes problems when you leave AE to uninstall previous versions.

thanks

yes, those 2 except the 7 folder appears empty of executables there are 4 files i think there, all the files are in 2008.

i downloaded to desk top ae, then i read that it would install over 2008? So i deleted it from desktop. But it's best to remove from add//remove./control panel? then download and install? There is only 1 item in control panel--AD-AWARE, so if 2008 was installed over 2007 will control panel add/remove clean it?

Yep, just uninstall 2008 via the control panel.

Then go ahead and manually delete the 07 and 08 folder. Then install the AE edition.

Is the Ad-Aware ae link you have in your post the best to download from? i think it was 58mb?
tks

Yeah use the link and then click on which version (pro/plus/free) you want to download and just follow the links. smile.gif

I am ready to uninstall and reinstall, what are the best settings then to use for ae?
Is the interface a lot like 8?
thanks

The best settings are set by default - however, you can still tweak things to run how you like them.

No, the interface is a lot different! But I think it is easier to use smile.gif

Hard question to ask, but i see some other sites saying other anti spyware is better than AE . Your comments? These are tech forums, not software sites.

The thing is, and this goes for any type of software, a lot of the different products available on the market basically offer the same stuff - just with minor differences here and there.

This is true for pretty much all security software.

So then you read other people's comments on which they prefer or why they don't like one compared with another. But often the comments you are reading;
  • don't apply to the most current version of the product - this can be quite hard to spot, unless you know the product versions well
  • are written by someone, especially bad comments obviously, who has had problems with the product. Now the problems they experience, if they had posted here for example, could probably have been easily fixed.
  • written by somebody who already favours a particular product.

Don't get me wrong this isn't always true, you do get some well written and balanced reviews.

So in my opinion, and I think the general concensus, is that try the products (especially free ones). See which you like. Then maybe if you like one, keep it, or upgrade to the full program (so the pro/plus versions in Ad-Aware's case). Also remember that no product alone will catch all threats; so have a couple of security programs installed (just only have one real-time agent turned on).

Obviously, I use Ad-Aware and help out here in the forums - so I must like it. But, of course, there will be others who prefer to use different programs.

Hope that helps,

Casey

I have used adaware and spybot since 98, but i got hit with a rogue installer some time back, so i had to install malware bytes to remove it, , and i have seen super anti spyware talked about a lot and i realize you are kind to offer this and i appreciate that, last night a full scan with malwarebytes was clean, and my ca av does a good job, lately spybot and adaware have been clean, so i guess it's what i decide on?
thanks
