Been a while that I looked over these forums but from what I see how eveything in the topics has been purged and from the way 2008 been running it like they do not even care anymore, sure is a sad day to see ls dump us and leave us hanging and trying to force us user in AE 09, which is buggy as is.

As of the last 3 and half weeks each time when you update 08, nothing but problems such as loading up it frezzes, will not run, error msgs, but heck what goood it's doing to post here they do not care and all they are going to do is wipe out this msg anyway. BTW even tryed 08 on many other machines to test it out and each one has problems with the software, so it not my setup.

Such a sad day been using this program from AdAware to se days, heck I even reverted back to using Awaware SE or 2007, at least it runs with no problems.

Time to hunt for new sofware that does the same job as 08 then sad.gif

FYI, posts are moved to the archive after 1 month to keep the board tidy. I liked SE too, but it makes no sense to use it now that definitions have been discontinued. Since each new version improves on the last, I don't understand your resistance to upgrade. AE has bugs, but not for everyone - mine has worked fine, I just never updated past 8.0.3. You really don't have anything to lose since 2008 hasn't been working for you. There's a new update due out soon which fixes some known problems - are you going to try it, or keep at it with an old version which you know doesn't work?

FYI, posts are moved to the after 1 month to keep the board tidy. : Up to 4 months ago old post have been here to read up of troubles or problems, guess the house work got a little behind because I been reading them.

= If some of us using this would have been told this we would have never upgraded and just kepth using the same one.
I done tryed using AE Ver on several machines here in the shop and on many customers computers, heavy cup load times and system drags or slow downs. When watching the cpu usage popping over 60% to 100 at times, it was related to AE edition, once it was removed from the computer the computers ran fine. This is why I and many of techs I have spoken to had nothing good to say about AE Edition Period. But thats good many folks like it, guess the small % of us in this area and those on the net were the unlucky ones.

As of 2008, up to over 4 and half months ago was doing fine, for some reason when the first know problems happen of not able to run, update or scanned and total lack of response from this forums of the problems for over 2 weeks (Note: Only responce was really from you at least you tryed) and from that point on when 08 was updated problems after problems would pop up and not just this machine but over 80 differant machines in the last 4 months of testing 08, many customers reported back to me the program was not running or doing right. (Machine using XP Home, Pro vers, Vista Basic and Prem VER)

Bottom line Ad-aware se was the work horse and did really well, heck I went as far as going to 07 which was still ok, 08 in it's early stage had a little problems and did ok, and as I said up to over 4 months ago it seams 08 performance has went to you know what.
Yes when the new ver comes out I will check it out and see the reviews of it, but as of now the AE Edition and many people I have spoken to again has nothing good to say about it. Thats why I been trying to hang on to 08, yes I have a 08 with def update dated back to may of last year. That which runs fine, but once you update and update the def files it when I have notice all of the hick ups and problems.

Bottom line I know it's a free ver and it use to be that when problems happen, you (LS Techs) had answers here pretty quick and it seamed to me once the problem was fix everything was ok, but as of late of all the testing with upgrades of 08, 08's track record here is not good and because of it I can no longer recommend it to my customers, because they are the one's calling me complaining about the problems because I was the one telling them how good this product was and supported.

Now as of the other day I have switch to Super Anti-Spyware for the time untill the new ver of AdAware comes out to test and see how it does to see if I will use it and also make recommendations to my customers for them to use it.

The archived board topics can still be read/searched, they're not gone. 1 month is just a guideline - in the most active sections (Anniversary Edition and General Support), I move posts that are 1 month old if they're either closed/resolved or I was the last reply. In other sections with only a few pages, I leave them.

I can sympathize with your position in the tech field - I know someone who no longer installs Ad-Aware on client systems. I'm not advocating on behalf of the product, just my experience. Had I run into problems, I would have uninstalled and gone with something else. I just learned to always turn off auto-updates, so I avoided problems which arose with 8.0.4.

Hopefully the CPU usage problem will be fixed, Lavasoft is aware. On my XP system, CPU jumps to 75-95% only when initializing, then it's fixed at 25% when the GUI is onscreen - it drops back to 0% when GUI is minimized.

As for the older version of 2008 working, is it possible to update only the definitions manually and still have it work?

Nods just as of late I have seen high cpu usage and to get the clients off my back ended up removing the AE Edition because of them also having a anti-virus software with other software loaded has slowed the system down, not kidding here once AE Edition was removed cpu usage drops off and system runs like a horse.

I have tryed to narrow down the problems, but as of the def file 122.0000 Ad-Aware 2008 will run like a horse with hardly any problems, but here is the kicker. Once you update to current def file is when I see all of the errors, load times, hang up's, not able to connect to server, you name I seen it all and this as I said on many differant type machines, not just mine. After the last several months the headache is not worth it.

Believe me I supported Aware and stood by it, but lets face it the problems in the past serveral months is not worth it. Granted when the new version comes out and yes I will test it and test it on other systems plus with my system 7 machine also to see how it performs before recommending it to my clients. Every little bit or tools you can get helps fight the junk out their.

In case if you wanted to know all my clients machines had these tools loaded on their system to run manually to help fight the junk out their:
AD-Aware 2008 - run the scan manually
Spybot Search & Destroy - run the scan manually
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - run the scan manually
AVG 8.5 - This one in Auto mode.

And out of 200 computers in the last 10 months, many are happy they stay clean. just 08 or AE problems are the main complaints in the last 4 months.

All I can do is hope the new version will run like the old work horse like I have been use to, because it's a good tool for anyone to use to help their systems get clean and stay clean, crossing fingers.
