I'm using Anniversary Edition on a Windows XP Pro SP3 machine. I also use Avast and SpyBot.
My last AdAware scan reported detection of Housecall Activex and asked me to upload the file to ThreatWorks, which I did. However the scan result stated no threats detected. Curious, I googled Housecall Activex and found it to be a vulnerable part of the Trend Micro scanner, which has not been installed on that machine.
Is there anything to worry about here? Should I dig deeper - and if so, how?
TIA, Momputer

Hi,
Just because ThreatWork asked you to submit the file it does not always mean the file is dangerous - it just may exhibit unusual behaviour. However, since this is part of a well known program then I would not worry.

It should be OK since it's a well-known program, but it begs the question what is it doing on your system if you never used TrendMicro's Housecall (online scanner)? If you're the only user, it shouldn't be there unless you got the computer from someone else who installed it. I usually delete all ActiveX from my system since I figure it's better to redownload current versions when I visit such a site.

That's comforting news :-)
Thinking back carefully, it went to a computer repair shop several years ago for service. They may have used housecall. Why do you suppose AE hasn't caught it until just now, though?

I'm not sure why :s strange.
But anyhow as visitor says you can uninstall the Active X from your browser now - it's not required.
