I had the free anniversary on my computer for a long time. Recently, it started acting up, so decided to uninstall it and re-install it. So I uninstalled it. Then when I tried to re-install it, it started going through the installer. Select your language (English), accept the terms, etc. It ended up with this error message:

"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2718."

Click "OK".

Another error messsage:

"Unable to uninstall old version of Ad-Aware. Please uninstall it yourself using Control Panel Add-Remove Programs before attempting to install this product. Fatal error during installation"

Go into Control Panel ---> Add-Remove Programs. Ad-Aware is not there.

Do a registry clean, delete temporary files, delete cookies, etc., all of the usual clean-up stuff. Reboot. Try again. Same error messages.

Might try these useful free tools. WICU cleans up botched installs and Revo Uninstaller on the highest setting will remove all traces of Lavasoft/Ad-Aware before you reinstall.

Also, I always install software with nothing else running to prevent conflicts, especially other security programs. Other than that, you may be infected with something preventing the installation. If you suspect you are infected, follow the instructions in my signature to get help with malware removal.
