I have my settings set to update automatically but today I see that I am apparently only using version 0149.0040.

If I click on the update option it appears to download the latest updates (0149.0042) and yet the version shown in the AdAware window still stays at 0149.0040. The update log for today (4 Sep) shows an apparent update took place.

Can anyone explain? Am I not being updated or is it an error with the interface and the window is not updating.

Did you close/reopen Ad-aware or reboot? After definitions are downloaded, Ad-aware needs to restart to load the new definitions.

I did a reboot but it made no difference. However, when I booted up today I see the correct defs reference is now showing.
Cannot understand why it failed to show before though!

It might be the same bug which affects the last scan date shown. The Lavasoft service does not close properly, so the data is not written. This happened to me once, then never again. Lavasoft has said this bug has been fixed during beta testing of the update due out later this month.
